Hi all, just posted the below in the my defender thread
It was at this point realised something not right. When ordered online had already been in contact with the supplier on the phone to confirm was correct boss (48 spline) with regards to chassis number which is an xa. After phoning them to double check was correct for 48 spline, went to count the splines..... 36! Any body else had a similar problem? Office closed but shall be in touch first thing on morning to get the other one sent out and then update on here Is regarding a mounteny steering boss and wheel. Seems the number of splines is different to what should be.... It's a t plate 99 td5 chassis xa. Any thoughts? Cheers in advance |

At that age the factory body type matters and determined which column + wheel it received at the factory. Station Wagons got one type (36) and everything else the other (4

That should be ( 48 ) not (4
Going on your vehicle profile saved here you have a 110 station wagon so 36 spline is correct. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Ok, so got the correct mountney boss, however was not at all happy with the finish or detailing (see if can spot their mistake!!)
Click image to enlarge Decided to go for something of what should (hopefully) be better quality and ordered a momo tuner wheel and 36 spline momo boss which the supplier said would fit ok. Have read other threads on here but couldn't see anything specific to model and year of mine. 99 td5 110 county station wagon. Has anyone with same spec fitted such a boss as below. It just does not fit very far down the splines and butts up against the steering housing. Click image to enlarge It does have an indicator cancel pin but just the one. Click image to enlarge Has anyone fitted such a boss to a similar spec vehicle and were any modifications needed to get this to fit and work correctly, any help greatly appreciated |

So got it fitted, really happy with the look.
Click image to enlarge Got the ignition on and gave it a few turns, the problem is there is no clearance between the back of the boss and the steering cowling i think you'd call it, think the creaking noises may do my nut in, not that there's already a few to contend with haha it being what it is Other concern is that there is only approx 3 or 4 mm of the splined shaft binding with the splines on the boss. Click image to enlarge Still looking for any guidance or advice on any possible improvements |

Aha! Is this what people have used over the momo one?
http://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/land-rover-36-spline-boss-kit.html Looks like it may give some clearance and yet more of the splines be allowed to bind |

Ok so got an exmoor boss and got it fitted. Not 100% happy with it though, but it shall have to do for now.
The wheel looks great but the finish of the boss and it's final position is quite proud. Shall do more homework and change the boss at least when it finally gets a rebuild. Click image to enlarge |
