The headlining was a recent eBay purchase from a guy with the username 'lrdlife'. I've had a quite few bits from him now, including later rear and passenger doors, and his prices are a lot more bearable than most of the breakers. He also usually offers postage, although I did collect the headlining.

As for rivnuts, I've kept a selection in stock for years. Again, you can pick them up on eBay. I think I bought my rivnut tool from a stand at Billing in the early '00's, back in the days when there were lots of useful stuff for sale. I've misplaced the M6 collet though, so keep meaning to buy another Rolling Eyes Darren

Nice one LRA Thumbs Up
I have the closed cell foam under mine.. Helps a lot with the noise and insulation. I haven't got a telephone piece yet. Rivets are great, I used some to put my headliner in, better than fir trees and easier to remove. 1993 200Tdi Defender 90

Very nice with the headlining Thumbs Up

I'm sorry LRA but the OCD has come out again in me Rolling Eyes and in your top pic, the screws that hold the head light surrounds on, are very noticeable, would look nicer in black ? ( IMO ) Laughing Laughing 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

This evening the sun was shining so thought I'd fit the hinge blocks that I'd carefully painted weeks ago. As is the way with these things though, it wasn't as easy as it should have been Rolling Eyes

The idea was to replace these:

With these:

Starting on the drivers side, the first job was to remove the internal clamp that locks the proper hinge in place. I expected this to be a fight with rusted bolts but was actually quite easy:

The hinge itself came off without too much trouble but revealed that it had been stuck on with what looks like Hylomar Shocked

I cleaned it off with a scraper and wire wool but the paint is very soft and so that came off too, so I was left with no option but to mask it up and repaint:

It's not brilliant, but then none of the paintwork is, so it'll have to do for now:

With a bit of luck, I'll fit the hinge block to this side tomorrow and then tackle the passenger side. Darren

So, today I fitted the first hinge block. All pretty straightforward, with new bolts and clamps for the inside:

I sprayed the inside of the top of the bulkhead with ACF 50 before positioning the new block:

I then made a start on the other side, which revealed yet more Hylomar:

It cleaned up pretty easily though:

One thing I did notice is that the bulkhead holes are tubed. The other side wasn't, which leads me to believe that it's been repaired at some time in the past. Darren

So, yesterday evening was mostly spent masking and painting:

Then this evening I fitted the remaining hinge block. I bought the bare blocks from eBay and then had to buy the internal hardware that clamps it all in place:

Technically, there's another single hole spacer for the top bolt position, but that part was hugely expensive for some reason. So I used a couple of M8 stainless washers instead, which matched the thickness of the two hole spacer perfectly.

I made the rubber gaskets and, when it's all tightened down, they seem to provide a good seal. Time will tell, I guess. Anyway, here's the finished result:

It obviously looks exactly the same as every other 90 made after about 1994, but it pleases me Whistle

In other news, I've bought myself a nice, clean Sprinter bottle jack to replace the standard pillar jack. Just got to work out where I'm going to store it now:

Thanks Smile I'm trying not to fill my battery box as I want to install a second one and a split charge unit. I'm looking at fixing the new jack to the bulkhead behind the seats in a similar way to the original one, but haven't actually tried it for size yet. Darren

My Sprinter Jack came with a bracket to mount it.

Loads of people bought these on D3 maybe a polite ask on there and somebody might have a spare there not using. ?

(i'm planning on using mine to mount it)
