yeah, pull the filler trim from the centre of the rubber and push the glass from one corner towards the side where the filler trim came out of. Make sure you catch it!
You really need a 'claytonrite' tool or 'filler trim tool' to put the filler trim back in. You can use a blunt wide screwdriver, but it takes ages! If anybody needs windows taking out and refitting in the staffs/cheshire area, I'll be happy to do this for you, though usually a 'one man band' windscreen company would do this for a very small fee. |

Thanks. When you say 'pull the filler trim from the centre of the rubber' do I just pull it out with needle nose pliers? Are the filler trims reusable or will it get destroyed during removal?

You will see a join, just firk it out with a screwdriver, make sure you don't stab yourself in the eye...
It's totally re-useable, it can stretch though will still go back in. |

Depending how old the rubber is, it'll also be a lot easier to fit a new seal, as they tend to go hard with age. Washing up liquid, washing machine detergent or some other water based lubricant also makes popping them back in a doddle, if you use washing up liquid make sure you rinse it off thoroughly after fitting as it's quite salty.
I've got the tool for refitting the filler trim, but mine has a roller on it, which makes it a bit easier. You can also get a tool for hooking the rubber over the glass, but personally i just use a small blunt screw driver for that, it works better. Small curved glass is normally a lot easier than large flat bits as they're less likely to crack. |

Both rear quarterlights removed in less than a minute. Bit scary actually how easy it was.
Is there any reason why the seals couldn't be refitted back to front so that the spreader is on the inside? |

Totally do-able, though a bit tricker to fit filler trim, seats in the way, depends on how you like to struggle in small spaces in hot weather!

As above it's possible but more awkward. You could just use some rubber glue and glue the filler in, it means a new seal next time you take the window out, but how often do you remove them?
Bear in mind though that someone could still just take a Stanley knife to the seal from the outside, they don't care it's not their car. |
