I met Roger Moore in Corfu when I was a kid. I don't suppose he remembered it. I was on holiday with my Mum and Dad and we knew they were filming For Your Eyes Only around the island. We somehow stumbled across the filmset in the South West of the island. Roger was playing backgammon with another guy under a parasol in full dinner suit and tie. We were in shorts. He must have been melting. My Mum got his autograph and I, a 9-10 year old little lad learnt the realities of films in that afternoon. They don't shoot harpoons into the backs of frogman, they screw them into blocks of wood and the beautiful seafront apartment was just scaffolding when you looked round the back. The bit we spent all afternoon watching is about 9 seconds in the film.
I remember that Roger was incredibly charming and very polite to my Mum. Pity a few more prima-donnas don't take a leaf out of Roger Moore's book. No idea what happened to the autograph - it was in a box on their bedroom dressing table. I think you always have a favourite Bond and in a lot of cases it was the one you grew up with. Mine is Roger Moore for that reason. As a side line, the other Guy who he was playing Backgammon with, and who we failed to recognise, or get his signature, was the late great Cubby Broccoli the producer. Doh!!! (in a Hommer Simpson style)

I was only just watching him in The Man with the Golden Gun at the weekend
 .
Went the whole hog 20 odd years ago and tried to be him with this baby 
I know people slag them off but I paid £8k for it when it was 6 years old. Thrashed it for 4 years, never serviced it (I couldn't afford to at the time!!) and then sold it for £8k.  Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |
