High/low range switch on Puma LT230
Hi all, looking for some insights...

On the TD5, some people would shunt or disconnect (depending on... MY?) the high/low range switch on the transfer box, as this changes the throttle response.

On the Puma, I think it also changes the anti-stall logic and keeps the EGR closed (is that actually true?), so I wondered if anyone has done that on the Puma and what has been the outcome/benefits.

If I was to do it, I'd rather do it "properly" by fitting a switch in the cabin, so I'd need the right connector to plug the wire from the ECU, i.e the one found on IGM500011.

Do you know where I could find the connector alone without the whole assy (not that it's very expensive either, but it's a bit of a waste to purchase the assy for just that little piece of plastic)? “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

IGM500011 is the difflock switch, despite what the parts catalogue and online suppliers state.

IGM100000 is the high/low switch. Way more expensive!

It's a Sumitomo HW090 series connector which may help you track it down.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

but why?

in low range, the throttle response is smoother so that you can have more control over the vehicle, so why would you want remove that!? Shocked --

Hi,
I have disconnect it.
The reason is not a question of throtle response but because no power in low range.
I lose the antistal so the best will be a switch
Phil current : defender 110 sw 2.2 puma 2012 and 230.000km today and
again my Range Rover VM2.5 engine from 1992 and 528.000km today.

Update
So I ordered the HW090 connectors, received within a couple of days (from Japan, amazing service!)



Unpacked the bits and pieces:



A high-tech electronic design: Rolling with laughter



So that I have a male and female plug that I can put between the two original connectors:



Installing the cable takes 2 minutes at most, it's very easy from under the car, so I didn't bother with running a cable back into the dash and installing a switch, partly because I'm lazy and partly because I wanted to try first and see how it affects drivability...

Took it for quick test drive, it feels different, throttle seems more responsive, as if there were fewer electronic gizmos playing behind the throttle, a bit like an old fashioned cable throttle.

Anti-stall clearly uses a different strategy and kicks in a lot earlier.

EGR is unaffected (according to the scanguage) and plays its role just as before.

Remember you can disable the clutch switch too, but still keep antistall.

It'll prevent the rev overrun especially in low. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Can you elaborate on this since I don't understand what you're getting at? Anti-stall only operates when there's no throttle input, how can you get "earlier" than this?

I've just used a J.P.T. Connector and a wire loop to effectively join the clutch switch wires together. To create a closed circuit. The TD5 can just be unplugged and left open. Everything the same pretty much except for revving in low range. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
