Mysterious power drop...
My 110 2007 Puma has a problem with slowing down occasionally. If anyone has any clue as to why, I'd like to share it with my local concessionaire in France, who claims there's nothing wrong...

It almost always happens on the motorway, though as it seems to affect power at high revs, I mightn't notice it in normal conditions.

I get up to 70 or so, the car seems fine then suddenly loses power and won't do more than 60mph - about 2000 revs in 6 and 3000 in 5. Even gentle gradients become a challenge.

Of course, by the time I take it to the dealer, the problem has cleared and there is nothing to fix!

I did have a problem with the EGR valve and the chip putting the engine into "safe" mode - but in this case there is no engine warning light and there is no fixed rev cap - just a general loss of power.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Scott

Probably won't be any. I have experienced a similar thing (albeit at slower speeds and doesn't seem to happen part way through a journey).

I asked the dealer to check it out last week and he claimed there was no evidence (i.e. no fault codes).
I thought it might be the EGR but I'm not had any confirmation.

If you find out anything let me know.

Mine does the same(I think), I thought it was my imagination or perhaps gusts of wind, but when I am travelling at over 110km/h and I get to an uphill it feels almost like I have taken my foot off the accelerator when I press it in more. I first noticed this when towing a heavy trailer. It feels like the vehicle is flooding and losing power.

Would be interesting to know if anyone finds a real problem.

Mine is in the dealers at the moment with the same problem. Happened about 3 times in 5 days usually within 10 minutes of being on the road from a cold start. No acceleration at all and the last time it happened the mil light came on.

Dealer say's the fuel pressure regulator as failed and that it requires a new regulator and fuel pipe. A new regulator as been fitted but there is no fuel pipes available at this moment in time and the dealer as no lead time for the pipe and they have had the vehicle for nearly 3wks.

aha, so perhaps it wasn't my imagination either.
I work in B'ham city centre and travel in/out on the A38M express way which is where I've also noticed more than once a slight loss in power - this would be circa 10 mins after starting journey.

as it has only been a slight loss I've tended to ignore it Question

The first time it happened I'd just set off from my drive in 2nd gear going up a slight incline, then changed into 3rd gear at about 35mph and then nothing. it was foot on the floor boards and it would not accelerate past 35mph, pulled over stopped the engine and restarted it ok.

The second time I'd just joined the motorway behind a lorry doing 56mph, pulled out to overtake the lorry , put the foot down and again nothing happened, took 6miles to get from 56mph to 60mph, got of at the next junction stopped and restarted the engine ok.

The third time it happened I'd just filled up with diesel and within 1 mile it started running rough and that's when the mil light came on, so pulled over stopped the engine and when the engine had stopped there was 3 subdued knocking noises from the engine, restarted the engine then stopped it again and again the same 3 knocks.

Looking back on it I suspect the fuel regulator v/v as not been working properly from day one as the fuel consumption as been between 19 to 24 mpg mostly nearer the 19 mpg.

I wish I still had my TD5 but unfortunately someone nicked it.

So far in the 9 months I have had this one it's been of the road for 2 months waiting for parts and also there as been 2 attempts to nick it.

I was running mine today about 50mph and suddenly the power dropped so I could only do about 30mph, the orange engine management light came on. Switched the car off and started it again with no problems but the light remains on.

Any ideas, or anyone experienced the same thing??

On my second Puma after the first had leaks all over it, this one is almost as bad and wish I still had my TD5:(

Fekete - Which dealer do you use? I haven't had great experience with dealers in my area and really keen to find a good one in Cheshire/Manchester/Shropshire area

I have had this too, Dealers fitted new fuel pressure valve said that would be fine know!
Did same thing 2 days later and after 2 days light went out. Day that I took it into dealers to check it out did it twice on the 10 mile trip to dealers. Said it was the same code as before but there is a new service bulletin out for this and its the fuel tank breather pipe they did this last Friday and so far it drive like a Totally different Land Rover.

Found that it did this more when it was a cold frosty morning's/day's

Thanks everyone - the local dealer is going to have a look at the fuel pressure thingy. Of course its been running perfectly since I asked the question!

S

PS I found a useful listing here of Land Rover recall notices etc, which includes ref to fuel pressure problems about half way down: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defen...wards.html
