Being an old Pom, I love the historic buildings/estates etc that are in the UK...because we have nothing like them in Aussie, and at the rate they tear buildings down here, we're not likely to. What is the story/history on this one? Pickles. |

Pickles, the building is Kielder Castle in Northumberland, it's not a castle in the true sense of the word but was built as a hunting lodge by the Duke of Northumberland in 1775. It now houses a cafe, small museum and Forestry Commission offices and a few times a year you can camp out in it on a haunted type sleepover Cheers Ian

We are so lucky to have such heritage here in the UK Pickles.
I spend a bit of time in the middle east with work and an arab friend was amazed when I told him my house was built in 1953..........'what and its still OK to live in?' |

Agreed, the one thing I miss a lot about not living in the UK now is that 'heritage'... (as well as proper pubs, proper curry)!
Also miss driving at 'sensible' speeds on Motorways and B/C roads! Give us fellas in Oz a few hundred years and I am sure we will catch up! YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

Agree Pete,..100%,...but at least you've been lucky enough to see a lot of the U.K. "Heritage"! I remember when we lived in England, we used to stay near Harlech Castle,...I still remember looking down into a dungeon & wondering who'd been in there over the years! We stayed at a little village called Llandanwg, there's a very old Church there dating back to the 5th century, and when we were there there was an operational RAF base, which you could see across the water. Martin. |
