Hello,
The engine and gearbox will mate together. All rover v8 engines take the same gearbox bellhousing. There is a fair bit of work involved, take a read through my v8 conversion thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic48090.html 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon 1998 Land Rover Defender 110 County Station Wagon ~ Sold 1995 Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Station Wagon ~ Sold 1985 Land Rover 110 ex mod project Tithonus ~ Sold |

An autobox will make things more expensive and difficult, so I would stick to an R380 if i were you 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

To be honest an R380 would be just as expensive. You´d have to convert a disco one if you can even find one. Reconditioned ones go upwards of £800. If manual your best bet would be an LT85 gearbox. Got my rebuilt one for about £450. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Thats not the expense, im talking about the gear selector/tunnel shroud he'd need from a NAS 4.0 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW 1956 Series 1 Hard-top 1958 Series 1 Soft-top |

You don't have to have the NAS trim, the donor Discovery will have the selector mechanism and it's not difficult to make a box/surround to go around it.
I've built two auto Defenders and an auto Series III and never felt the need to spend huge amounts of money on a piece of plastic to go around the selector. I also used Jaguar J Gate shifters as they're a fraction of the cost second hand of a Discovery on (or used to be). http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

As Dave said it´s not necessary. I´ve seen conversions where the selector is just mounted in the hole where the gearstick would be. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon 1998 Land Rover Defender 110 County Station Wagon ~ Sold 1995 Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Station Wagon ~ Sold 1985 Land Rover 110 ex mod project Tithonus ~ Sold |
