La France
Emmanuel Macron, impressive to watch his inauguration. Hope he delivers on turning the country around, which in turn should be good for all of Europe. I wish him all the best in his task ahead. Thumbs Up

I agree.
If he does what he says it will be good for France.

From my understanding, he leads a new party with no MP's (or equivalent) and has got elected by default as people voted for him to stop Le Pen getting in.

Now there is a month to go before general elections, does he have any hope of getting a majority in government to push through what appear to be very promising changes?

He certainly appears to have the John F Kennedy effect which I'm sure will give a dynamism to French and European politics. He also speaks superb English. I'm always jealous of bi lingual people as I have wrestled with French for so long and still struggle big time with understanding the spoken word. With Macron it all appears so effortless and what a contrast he is to other European leaders (think frumpy May, frumpy Merkel etc)

.

Only the time will tell, but for many things can not become worse than the last president. Useless Hollande.
I afraid Macron is just his trainee and 66% voted for him to avoid Le Pen. Record white ballot papers, even more than for Le Pen. I hope people give him a chance to do us a good thing but I know already his mountain will be steep. No party and in France no cohabitation in politics will last enough time to do something good.
Perhaps the assembly elections in a few weeks will see his party installed but I fear the FN will gain many seats and never play well with Macron as will never the left.
For sure we must now all take our orders from Merkel!

Prolo, political statements and discussions are not really appreciated on this forum. So just one thing, give this new young wind that is blowing now a chance. The EU economy in general is giving signs of rebounding after 10 dismal years. I think this new team is your chance by excellence to bring France back in the game of needed reforms and put the country back on the map of people earning money more by production than by being part of a too big bureaucracy. I am hopeful that the new president has all the good intentions, so work with him and do not strike the country into the deep while the overall current economic environement is providing ground for recovery. Thumbs Up

Don't know if you know the old financial service company Smith Barney, but they once had an excellent advertising line....

I love France and I love politics, but a President voted in by large numbers of people who don't support him and who simply wanted to keep someone else out, does not bode well.

Especially as Macron will be fighting vested interests even more powerful than those in England.

Be optimistic by all means.

Realistically, the next few years in French politics will be "interesting" to say the least.

The 34% who voted for Marine Le Pen are not going to go away.......

Then why start something overtly political Eric? Rolling with laughter Steve.

Happy as always I see. Rolling Eyes Laughing
I was just responding to a pretty negative post with openly "name and blame" all over.
I'm trying to be optimistic that our neighbours have an opportunity here to improve things for themselves, which then again will come to benefit all of Europe. Even to you, stronger €/£ forex since the election should help U.K. exports to EU, and make buying Defender parts in the U.K. more attractive for € based countries. So nothing to be miserable about. Thumbs Up

But what you say is political and now you say that nobody without your opinion is bad?
If you do not like the answers, do not ask the questions. Your view is no more valid or successful than that of me and by polls 66% of the French population who feel forgotten by a man who was a greedy banker at the time when they behaved very badly for the world and then the minister for economy and finance when the economy stopped to work and in fact added half of one million more unemployed people! If he creates 500000 jobs, he will have achieved to reverse his own doing before.

But I give him a chance to do a good job. We shall see in 5 years what is the reflections.

Macron's cabinet selection is bold and cuts right across traditional party lines. I think it is really positive and long overdue.

Look at it another way, he is challenging the status quo in positive and constructive way that doesn't make the country a laughing stock around the world. Compare that to the US where Trump only speaks to remove one foot before putting the other in his mouth.
