I used 4x4 in Biggin Hill (01959570941) for nearly two decades to service/repair my Defender, they specialise in Land Rovers, always did a good job for me and at very reasonable prices, their premises are a bit shabby, just off Jail Lane, ask for Dave or Ray.

Since I bought a brand new Defender in late 2015, Beadles (Sidcup) are paying for my servicing following a deal I did with them.

I see you're in Yorkshire but I'm not sure where.

If you're in The Bradford area then Simmonites on Thornton Road are a good independent, just had my 3 year service and MOT done there and the cost - including a new Momo steering wheel and boss fitted - was still less than the amount wanted by Farnell's for the service. And the wheel, boss and fitting were well over £300!

Thanks for all the advice, I'll print out the service sheets and have a read through.
I do fancy doing the services myself so I know what is done and I can keep a log of what was used.
The car is a keeper as its a second vehicle its not used that much. So millage is low per year.

I've just done mine at 48k and four years old. Full book of stamps up to 36k.
I can guarantee I am the first to change oil in diffs and show the prop shafts a grease gun. Dealer servicing is not what I would expect. I now know what's what and I'm safe for another 12months or so. If I found somebody I trusted I'd let them do it but it won't be a main dealer with daft prices like those quoted here.

I have had my 2.2 serviced by two separate independents now (I have moved house during ownership). Both cost roughly £300 and the service was excellent. I second others here in that unless you have a trained eye, having somebody else looking for future issues is helpful - especially if it's a keeper.

My 2.2 is due an 'A' service (oil & filter change plus checks) and I often buy parts for my vehicles from eBay. As long as you're careful and check the seller and the description, most independents and suppliers sell there too. I actually started a collection whilst I was shopping, so I can keep coming back to it every 12 months and not have to search every time.

In case it's useful to anyone else, here's the link:
