Well an LSD could potentially lock up a bit, depending on the type of LSD.

However, the common (and better) thing to fit to a Defender is an ATB diff - automatic torque biasing. They have a lot of similarities but are actually very different. You can get LSDs for the axles, I don't think you can for the centre. You definitely can get an ATB diff for the centre and there is a huge thread on the benefits of them.

3x ATB (2x Ashcroft and 1x Quaife in LT230) in Def 110 with not correctly working brakes - I spent quite a bit of time to found garage with brake tester good enough for this combination. And with proper chains to hold the car for case of a problem. Car is not my, problem was in bad new brake calliper. Offroad it is very nice to drive, TC only signalizes that there is some slip, but the car moves like a tank. TC is eliminating the need for at least a bit of torque. Only drawback is the price. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

Well Devon 4x4 have priced fitting an Ashcroft referbished lt230 with atb and sleeved casing. I'm happy with the price. I'd rather pay them to do it and just go to work. Rather than spending my weekend with bleeding knuckles and a a transfer box falling on me. Only 5 hours labour.
Diff's to follow, maybe for Xmas. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

I don't think D44 would mind people knowing as I think its a good price. About £1600. Considering nearly £1200 of that is for the diff centre and rebuild then there's gear oil. Only a few hundred for fitting and you know it'll be done right. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

Not bad but not the best price. Ashcroft direct is £1044 for the same inc VAT without labour. £1320 from Syncro for a stronger box with a 2 year warranty.

So how much would Ashcroft want to put the box in? Bonus for me is a that D44 is very close and they would obviously warrant all their work. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

Not sure, price seems to be missing from their website. Though they did my gearbox (higher 5th, HD bearings, clutch, oil, seals, fitting, VAT) for £1444, I cant quite remember but I think an upgraded tx box was around the £1200 fitted

Their work is good and guaranteed (to a degree) but Luton is a horrible place, I was there from 9am till 5pm saw 2 films and had a walk through the worlds most depressing shopping centre.

May be worth giving a ring and weighing up the price difference.

My price was for a sleeved casing as well so I think that's another 130quid. Well they are going to do the job as soon as Ashcroft's can get the box to them. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

Being fitted 15th June. Not gonna get much work done that day. By the time I've driven there and back twice and spent a long while browsing the new shop. Can't wait for my drivetrain to not slap and bang all the time. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

my project has 3 ashcroft ATBs also. not turned a wheel yet though lol. the centre diff wasnt that expensive and given I was having a box recon'd it didnt seem a bad idea. hopefully a bit stronger and less slop.
