if you are replacing due to corrosion of the alloy, it may be better and cheaper to get the old ones powder coated. I just had mine done for £30 and the finish is excellent and they should last far longer than a new set with the ultra thin coat of paint on them.Mine were the extended ones so I don't know if these are worse than standard but they only lasted three years before the paint came off.

Trundlebus - thanks for that... yes, that's the reason for replacing.

Does the powder coat go straight onto the bare aluminium or do they need some sort of treatment first?

Hi Stuart
The powder coaters will shotblast, or something, prior to coating. Then the powder is put pn and baked at 200 degrees. This creats a really strong finish wich is bonded to the alloy. Note: make sure you ask them to mask up the hard plastic bush. I didnt and had to carefully sand off the powder coating to get the arms to swivel again. Dooh!

Thanks for that..... look great!

When you say the hard plastic bush... do you mean the inside of the bit that hinges where the cap is on the bottom? Or the actual outside?

See what you mean about them swiveling but struggling to see which part you mean to tape up...?! Confused

I just replaced mine with low cost £6.50 ish per side Britparts pattern versions.
Not the best to be honest. Poor quality castings, wafer thin paint and I think the swivel balls must be marginally smaller diameter. Despite tightening the mirror clamps really tight, both mirrors folded back once I hit around 50 MPH.
Now nipped up really tight and so far they have stayed put.

I guess you get what you pay for.

They are so easy to replace though that if they rot away in a couple of years, I'll go back to Britax originals.

Lesson learned.

Hi Stuart
Under the black rubber cap at the bottom there is a bush that slides up into the rpund spring hpusing. If it gets costed it will not slide up
