Please see below a list of relays numbered as per your photo:- 1 = R100 Main 2 = R104 Power 3 = R117 Cooling Fan 4 = R123 Headlamp 5 = R138 Heated Rear Screen 6 = R134 Front Wipers 7 = R103 Fuel Pump 8 = R102 Starter 9 = R176 Blower 10= R181 A/C Comp. Clutch Hope this helps. Regards LesDef |

So the headlamps are relayed now? No need for a swedish cable loom? |

There has always been a relay in the circuit for Defender headlights - it is energised by "ignition on" and ensures that the headlights only come on with the ignition. It doesn't alter the fact that the full headlight current passes through both the light switch and the high/low beam (dip) switch.
The high-current contacts of the relay are in series with the two manual switches. |

Hi TonoDef,
I have moved the under drivers seat (RHD) electrics to a box inside the cabin under the centre consule. During the proccess I noted the wire colours to each of the relays and checked them against the wiring diagram. I have not found any documents to designate these relays. Simple for an Electrical Draftsman. Regards LesDef |

Not completely true since 2012 model year. Whilst the dip switch does carry the full lighting current (and is still the weak link), the headlamp switch now operates the relay in the junction box. The relay that enables the headlights with the ignition on is by the main fuse box (bottom row, right hand side) |

Yes, the main switch now only carries the current for the sidelight circuits and activates the additional headlamp relay. There was a tech bulletin to bypass the main switch with a relay on earlier vehicles. https://www.defender2.net/gallery/albums/u...0relay.pdf
Shame L/R didn't use relays to bypass the dip switch, but then that would give us nothing to modify.... |
