Haven't got alot done in the last month, I hit a pheasant a while go and it managed to shear the wiper spline clean of so had to change the wheel boxes. While the dash was partly out I upgraded to twin jets great improvement! And had some gas struts laying around the garage so fitted them to the bonnet, they don't really improve any thing but they are nice Rolling with laughter

1996 Defender 90 300 Tdi SW Epsom Green
So I haven't updated this in over 4 years ! Shocked

If there is enough interest then I probably have enough pictures to update this in detail.

I Still have the landy and it has changed alot since my last update. I think shorty after my last update I stopped using the landy as my daily driver, and have had various golfs and Audis for commuting to work since then.

This allowed me to give the landy a full rebuild, the original plan was to convert to soft top, generally tidy it up and future proof it as much as I could. But things developed and I ended up spending the next 10 months of weekends and evenings rebuilding it.

I will put some pictures below the first one is the picture that gave me the inspiration. If any one is interested then i will go back and update step by step of the build.

Well i have just finished reading your thread, WOW, great stuff that you have done to and with your landy Thumbs Up It's good to see that you have still got your winch bumper on that you made Wink The main thing after 4 years of life that you are back and i and the forum would love to see the 4 year up date Whistle Many thanks Jack Bow down 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

1996 Soft Top Rebuild
So it looks like all of my old pictures are no longer viewable due to photobuckets new rules, i will try and fix this if possible?
Tracking back about two years now I started the rebuild.
First thing to come off was the roof and sides as one, the rear floor which had corroded in quite a few places this took a lot of spot weld drilling and cutting and the tree sliders needed some persuasion out of the chassis with the winch!

I then cut out the bulkhead, being 6,4' seat risers and no bulkhead have been a massive improvement. And fitted a removal bar.

Then my hood sticks arrived so I was able to test fit them along with the Exmoor XS hood after a long wait before I carried stripping down the rest. And also modify the wheel carrier to work and it used to bolt onto the capping that the canvas now covers

After that I carried on breaking it down to a rolling chassis, haven't got to many pictures of this. if anything was rusted then it was cut off as it would be replaced.

It was now getting to around Christmas time so the evenings and weather weren't really nice enough to be working
on it so i took to a friends barn. As i started pressure washing the chassis it became clear that replacing the chassis would be a better idea then welding up the old one which would still be rusting from the inside.

so a new chassis was ordered from marshland and i took the axles back home to work on in the garage, they where stripped parts replaced as needed and rebuilt and some paint. The front pistons where all seized so i upgraded to Td5 clappers and vented discs rather than rebuilding my campers. The rears where rebuilt.

I also did the engine at the same time, this didn't get a rebuild (150k) as there was nothing wrong with it. I gave its a good clean, fixed any oil leaks, some paint and flash silicone.

Thanks for all the comments Guys.
I have just come in from fitting the new VGT Turbo and wow what an improvement, I am in-between jobs at the moment so I have the time to do some more to the landy. Mainly the bits that I didn't have time/funds for originally but I will update on that soon!!

To get the bulkhead neat was a bit of a pain, I think if i did it again i would probably fit the mud stuff half style one as stuff does tend to roll forward and get lost behind the seat ! but its a bit late now Rolling with laughter

I have been to scared to add up the pile of receipts that have collected in my Tool box Shocked I am guessing around 5K but I could be well off Rolling with laughter 300 TDI 90 now soft top
