More definite progress this evening, with the wiper mechanism rebuilt and tested.
Lots of grease in the new wheel boxes: Click image to enlarge And in the cleaned up motor gearbox: Click image to enlarge I also fitted a new park switch to the motor, as I had it all in bits anyway. The old one was ok so will just go in the spares box. Click image to enlarge And with the wipers reinstalled: Click image to enlarge Tomorrows' tasks will be to plumb in the new twin washer jets and reassemble the dash, although I may need to do some wiring repairs as I found this behind the centre console: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge It looks a bit of a mess with several wires with broken insulation that's been patched up with insulation tape There are also several unused connectors and single wires so I'll see if I can identify what any of those might do too. Finally got it all back together this afternoon. Everything took longer than it should have though, as everything needed to be thoroughly cleaned before reassembly.
Discovered this little bit of industrial archaeology on the back of the vent trim panel. I wonder if BN is somebodys' initials? Click image to enlarge After cleaning 25 years of grime from the parcel tray, I made a rubber mat to fit in the base: Click image to enlarge Plumbed in the twin washer jet mod, being careful to ensure that both new pipes from the tee piece are the same length: Click image to enlarge Still got my new bumper to fit. Hopefully, tomorrow! Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? That is neat!
During my 'hey-day, fun-days' driving my Lotus Exige S1 around, one of the lads, who owned what was believed to be the last Exige, number 601!! off the 'production line' (turnip farm), found something very similar behind the rear bulkhead! https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1227463 YOLO... Ha! That is very cool. I bet BN never imagined he'd be being discussed more than 25 years later
I forgot to say, I also replaced the trim along the edge of the parcel shelf. The original was cracked and I did glue it back together, but I was pleasantly surprised at the price of a new one and I do like fitting new parts: Click image to enlarge Today's task was replacing the bumper with one with a built in tow point. All relatively straightforward stuff - it's only four bolts, after all - although still took longer than expected: Click image to enlarge No number plate yet as I've a new one on order. The pin is borrowed from my DB ball and pin tow ball but it's a bit short, to be honest. I can't find one that's just right so I've order one that's slightly longer and will cut it down to fit. I also took a few minutes to add a bit of colour to the front wings: Click image to enlarge Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Thanks. It's getting there but there's never enough time to do all that I want. I've a pile of parts in the garage waiting to fit I think next weekends' job will be to replace the front headlining, as I've just bought one and it's huge and taking up too much space! Darren

Looking great LRA... The wires do look a bit of a mess.. but its a nice job to tinker with and at least you can do it out of the cold ....I'm sure I have more than that in my central dash bit.....

Heh, heh, thanks. For the time being, I've cut back the damaged wires and taped it all up for safety. For some reason, all of the wires to the rear wiper switch had damaged insulation for the first 2-3 inches. It doesn't appear to have melted so gawd knows what's been done to it. Probably explains why the rear wiper has never worked though! Darren

Darren, I've got a 'ropey' would need recovering bit of roof trim that goes above the rear door if you want it?
It would neaten up the area behind the interior strip light |
