Thanks Greeni,
Your are one of the inspirations behind that idea. I have read your thread several times and swmbo. I fear my budget is also varstly less then yours. But you are right; I do have time on my side right now and thus starting the ball rolling. |

Wanted . A 75 th Birthday present.... anything?, just once.
Skill set? , wait a minute , I put that down around here somewhere a few years ago....... along with that bag of bits my wife gave to that young kid who was born in the '80's. I think it had a registration plate on it somewhere, and did'nt I used to drive in once. Of course there it is, my my is that starting handle all that is left? Good luck , I wish you well, there is nothing wrong with forward planning, I just got left with the forward and no idea what the plan was! S&S And can I have my bag of bits back, I have a matching stating handle, around here somewhere...... 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue 1967 Morris Traveller 1966 Morris Convertible 2012 VW T5 Camper Quod Abundat Non Obstat. |

I'm glad it gave somebody inspiration. Thank you for saying.
The budget wasn't huge, it's why I painted with a roller! The timescale was also a reflection on the cost, funds for the engine was a ray of sunshine....taking a positive from a bad situation. Otherwise it would have had a new gearbox too! It's been on the road less than a month, the free time it's given me is already eating me up and I'm constantly wanting one thing or another as a project ! I'd love a s2a, from my birth year, I'd probably get one registered to the day, as I was a New Years Day baby, but I think it'd be more of a romance thing, than practical purchase. A 2a truck cab, with 3/4 tilt.... Though for it to tick my boxes, I'd need a tdi or v8 pulling it along the road. Haters will hate. Though I change my mind daily (as people may have already figured)! If ever you're driving north, through Staffordshire, you're welcome to pop by for some coffee! I'll just drop this here, for inspirational purposes. Click image to enlarge |

You know, most men buy a fast car and find a younger woman for the '40th' midlife crises!
I'm glad to see you have come round to the new age way... that too complicated, buy a Defender instead! Although, the fast car and younger woman might be cheaper? Chris 2014 Discovery 4 TDV6 HSE 2003 Defender 90 TD5 CSW |

I wondered how long it would be before you piped up Is 40 now mid-life? Still love the D3, will go all the places a stock defender will go (baring size issues) and does it in comfort!! It also still works as a practical family. But this would be something special for me. |

Sounds interesting. I had seen you had commented on a few of the v8 threads and noted your location. How is it going? |

Nice spot James and looks lovely. Ah so if yours was your 40th. That means a presedence has been set and there can be no arguments. |

We moved to our probably... forever house for my 40th... I was about to buy an Omega watch so it turned out a much bigger expense However buying at the right price and doing it up while living in a touring caravan for 3 months.... We are more than happy....
I recently got the ok for a toy, I did think about a v8 something or other but did not want big insurance and tax on a toy car used only now and again. Also I've had quick cars done that been their I plod around now (but love the sound) So I was lucky and this was close by. deal done I wanted something that an carry all 4 of us so happy days. Its pretty original and I plan on doing things slowly to it, Its currently in the garage having a few bits done before I start. My idea eventually would be a soft top and wish list would be a v8 for the burble... The best bit is Zero tax and £100 to insure with FULL breakdown including home start I've already been doing stuff up while I await its return, painting wheels and lamp surrounds so far... I find the fun bit sourcing bits, updating bits and making it mine. All the bits on their own are heap (but it does start to add up) Best bit is I'm having fun and its better than having a few grand in the bank doing nothing. Car as it is Click image to enlarge 750 Wheels were bought and white so I have sanded and painted limestone Click image to enlarge A secondhand set of lamp surrounds, sanded, primed and first coat... Click image to enlarge My little helper... ooh and I've no idea since working in minis over 20 years ago.. so I just pick stuff up and have a go Click image to enlarge Good luck with what your after, if you have the OK off the boss as I did even better is does help when I keep bringing boxes home from work |
