Or perhaps a kind soul off the forum. Whereabouts on the border are you Jim?

The other two hoses fitted but cannot get the smallest one seated. My hands are too big!

The OEM rubber hose has failed and I'm trying to fit the BAS silicon hose. Its already a really tight fit and I simply cant get it seated.
The Defender is dead in the water. I cant now get the hose on OR off. |

Could you warm the hose up before fitting to make it more pliable? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Thinking the same. Blast it with a hair dryer on hot - should soften and enable you to remove. I usually drop hoses in hot water before fitting. Both softens and lubricates.

Maybe a thin smear of oil around the inside of the tube/pipe to aid insertion? 1999 Defender TD5 110

I'll try to blast it with a hairdryer and see if that allows me to move it.
Then heat it up in hot water before trying to install it? |

Nope. I have reduced my knuckles to a red mess but otherwise no progress.
I can't get the hose back off to heat it in water. I did try a hairdryer and was able to move it slightly but nowhere near enough. Click image to enlarge |

Can you get hold of some silicone lubricant or even rapeseed oil would do just to get things lubricated enoug to easily twist and slide?!

I tried lots and lots of GT 85. The main problem is that there is no space to pull the hose.
I think it'll have to go to its favourite position here.... Click image to enlarge Then try and get it up to Pete Bell. Picked a terrible time as we're supposed to be taking the kids on holiday. Joys of Defender ownership! |

Well at least GT85 smells pretty good daft suggestion... How about one of the kids? If they are old enough of course.
Aren't NWS Land Rover pretty darned close to you? Market Drayton way. Would they pop out? |
