This may or may not help.. but did you know that some of the earlier RRC's had solid, not floating, drive shafts in the rear axle.... like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Range-Rover-clas...SwrklVNBfS
Part Numbers 571882 and 571883... and those are LR part numbers ![]() ![]() ML 270CDI |

Not necessarily. The advantage with the single piece is obviously one less joint to reduce slack in the overall drive. However, in a Two-Piece, if your half shaft snaps or for that matter sheds its teeth you can remove the half shaft, remove the prop to the rear and still be able to drive albeit carefully. If a Single piece snaps AFAIK you are ![]() I could be wrong and I am sure someone with greater experience may know something different. ![]() PS: With the possible greater amounts of torque being put on the half shafts, do you really want to go down the cheap route. I would go with Ashcrofts every time, but then I haven't had a half shaft go yet although I have spotted some fretting which Ive cleaned up and coated in a layer of High Pressure 'Blackjack' grease(although its got more consistency to tar!) |

No reason not to do the same with a single-piece shaft, but you'd need to carry an old drive flange and centre cap if you wanted to be able to pull the shaft out and drive home.
Ashcroft HD halfshafts are warrantied against breakage but not against fretting. |

Just for info, as they've only just arrived. The Trek Overland ones aren't one peice shafts, despite having the one peice part numbers. They're just the earlier shafts with the later part number stuck on them by Bearmach. |
