Its not strictly true to say ABS doesn't help you stop quicker.

As it will potentially keep you under control it could make you stop quicker and in more control than skidding to the scene of the accident. So in some conditions it may actually stop you quicker

ABS means TC on all the pumas - which is an advantage.

Comparing ABS with airbags and side impact protection isnt really comparable...its a bit like saying because you dont have an airbag you shouldnt bother with seatbelts or other comparisons...something is better than nothing Mike

I recall during my driver training being told research had shown a highly skilled professional driver in a non-ABS vehicle is capable of marginally outbraking the ABS equipped version. However, that's a level of skill that is beyond the vast majority of the motoring public, myself included. Roel hit the nail on the head. No matter how good you are behind the wheel, by far the biggest advantage of ABS is the ability to steer whilst your foot is pushing the brake pedal through the floor and you are screaming some unmentionable expletive!

And even a highly skilled professional driver makes mistakes at times, whether it be from being a bit tired or from having a cold. ABS systems can't catch a cold.

I recall that even F1 cars went through a phase of also having TC and ABS!

Glad to see that rule was scrapped sharpish! YOLO... You Only Live Once...
