Roof rack / garage / tight
I'm keen on the Hannibal rack that incorporates the pull out table. The rack comes in a natural finish which I hope will fit with the style of the Heritage. The only challenge is that with the rail it adds 6.5in to the height, and the gap between roof and garage door is 7in. That all feels a bit tight and with LR tolerances it could clash. Any views on how precisely the Hannibal racks are built?

Thanks

1/2 inch is PLENTY!

I only have 1cm to play with with my Patriot rack!

I had to adjust the garage door a bit... but it was easily done and worth it! Thumbs Up YOLO... You Only Live Once...

That is brave! I can't adjust the door frame / door without silly expense. I need to try before i buy, could be tricky!

I'm hoping my SIII fits in the garage I've been getting ready for...

I tried my 110 (without rack and it was close... but close is fine if it fits Smile

I changed the up and over door for barn type doors, is this an option or is the height 'the height'.

Good luck. Thumbs Up

That is snug. I've got barn type doors, not standard, made to measure etc. When we built the garage I did not envisage ever putting a Defender in it, let alone one with a roof rack. Production ends, they make a garage queen and look what happens. The 96 pick up is left out to fend for itself.....

Don't forget, depending on the weight of the rack, it'll sink your suspension a little bit all round, not by much, but it'll offset the height increase a smidgen. North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader

Can you lower the garage floor?

Mine is about 4 inch shy of fitting in the garage, I should of bought the defender and then built the garage. Not the other way round!

A recent problem I also had as the new house garage has only 1.9mtrs clearance with the panel lift door. So had to build a new Defender shed! Big Cry

We now have 2.35mtrs of clearance & no lawn!

If it fits in it's fine but will you have it on all the time? I have enough space in the garage roof so I can string it up and leave it there and still get in and out of the garage with the defender. Russell

Good point, I could take it on and off but it feels like a ball ache. I can't drop the floor either. I'm going to see if I can get a mate with a frontrunner to test it.

Instead of reducing the whole floor level have you considered cutting and reducing two strips that the tyres would fit into? You could cut them 300mm wide and 50mm deep perhaps? If you want more information on a way to do this feel free to message me. 2015 HT XS 90

Can you not fit the rack without the surrounding rail? That should give you 3-4 inches of clearance between the rack and the garage door. The table looks like it hangs below the rack so shouldn't have an effect on the overall height.

I have a Hannibal rack without rail side rails, happy to take some measurements if that helps Very Happy
