Mesh direct.
And timber wise I've used 34x34mm Wickes planed softwood. (Must be treated / wood preserved.) The Mesh Direct site will inform you as to gauge etc. Don't use chicken wire though, use weldmesh typically the square 1" hole stuff is stronger. Bird cage wire and chicken wire are too weak. In the past I have always bought weldmesh from our local agricultural merchant (Mole Valley Farmers in my case), so I suggest your local ag merchant. 2mm with 50mm squares will be fox proof, but only if roofed. A fox will also dig under the fence, so you'll either need to go a foot or so into the ground or mesh the floor for a foot or so along the fence, preferably on the outside.
Alternatively keep some alpacas with the rabbits and they'll keep the foxes away. |

Thanks for the suggestions. I plan to go a foot into the ground with the mesh and backfill with broken bricks and course gravel to try and manage the foxes. Also need to put turf down so was going to put mesh across the whole floor first.
Garden is a bit small for alpacas. Thanks Keith |

Check that any treated wood you buy is Rabbit safe as some of the treatments given to wood are poisonous to animals. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I quite envy you with this enclosure - the ones I build start 2m in the ground and then extend 2m above ground, with a 1m inward sloping overhang plus hotwire atop that. The mesh is 4mm wire, 50mm squares, the posts are good recycled telegraph poles or 8" pressure treated new posts, and all the timberwork is outside the mesh, so everything is protected by mesh. Over the years I have built many, and currently am planning a 1500 square metre extension to a 500 square metre enclosure. It's blooming hard work, even with a backhoe! So yours should be a doddle by comparison.
Mine aren't for rabbits, though, but something rather larger! |
