[For Sale] Defender 90 Station Wagon – 1995 (M reg) – 300Tdi
NOW SOLD

Sorry - seems to be a problem getting photos to upload to my album at the moment - will add them as soon as I can Shocked

Thought I’d stick this up on the forum before hitting eBay and Autotrader for the Easter weekend. The photos are taken of it ‘as is’, complete with a few ‘bits and pieces’ in the back, and it will be getting a full spring clean over this weekend before I take some better pictures. However, I am a great believer in seeing cars how they really are and not specially prepped for sale.

This is a genuine factory Station Wagon (not the County Station Wagon) with two front seats and two rear bench seats to make it a 6 seater. I have owned this vehicle for nearly 16 years and am only now reluctantly selling it as I need a bit more space – its replacement will be a 110 double cab pick up!

I am the third owner, it was first registered in 1995 and owned by the National Trust until 2000 when it was sold to a local farmer who owned it for less than a year before deciding it was too small for his needs and I bought it from him in 2001 with 81,000 miles on the clock. It has now covered 109,000 miles and has a full service history as follows:

5/6/95 1,115 miles Main Dealer
22/9/95 6,673 miles Main Dealer
22/12/95 11,548 miles Main Dealer
17/5/96 17,943 miles Main Dealer
22/8/96 23,820 miles Main Dealer
11/4/97 33,673 miles Main Dealer
23/10/97 43,458 miles Main Dealer
15/4/98 51,499 miles Main Dealer
4/1/99 59,632 miles Main Dealer
20/9/99 65,545 miles Main Dealer
28/3/00 70,716 miles Main Dealer
12/12/00 77,263 miles Independent
15/9/1 81,370 miles Independent
10/3/04 88,954 miles Independent
10/4/06 91,790 miles Independent
27/4/07 94,054 miles Independent
6/5/09 97,532 miles Independent
8/4/10 100,216 miles Independent
16/10/12 104,364 miles Independent
3/5/13 105,179 miles Independent
1/8/14 106,241 miles Independent
10/8/15 107,432 miles Independent

It will be getting an oil and filter service before it gets sold but in honesty could probably do with gearbox, transfer box and diff oils changed.

In addition to normal servicing and replacement of consumables like wiper blades and light bulbs, etc. it has had various bits replaced, including:

- New clutch fitted in 2001
- Rear cross member replaced in 2009
- Brake discs & pads replaced all round in 2012
- Front radius arm bushes replaced in 2013
- Brake servo unit replaced in 2014
- Rear exhaust section replaced in 2014
- Steering drop arm replaced in 2015

(Also had a new fuel tank fitted but I can’t remember when.)

MoT runs until 20 August 2017.

This is an honest and genuine Defender, what you see is what you get – I looked at a lot of tatty vehicles before I finally found this one. It has served me well over the years and has been used for what it was intended, don’t get me wrong it is not an off-road ‘toy’ that has been modified and abused but it has been used off road regularly so you may find a bit of mud here and there! It is not, however, a blinged up ‘’chelsea tractor” or “driveway queen” that gets washed and polished on a Sunday morning and does have the usual issues that you would expect to find on a 22 year old Defender.

The bulkhead corners are both sound as are the footwells, but there is some panel corrosion, rust on the body cappings, paint lifting in places and a rear door that I would best describe as ‘scabby’ and would replace with a late model version if I was keeping it any longer. I would also replace the seals around both the Alpine lights in the roof if I was keeping it as they are leaking. It has picked up a couple of dents on the front wings over time – one was a tree branch and the other a Transit van, these are both small and add to the character so I never got them repaired. There are also some marks on the roof above the drivers door where something slipped off the roof bars whilst unloading at the tip and the inevitable small dents on various panels that have occurred over time – this is a vehicle that has been driven where and how it was intended to be.

The front bumper has been replaced with a heavy duty galvanised one (after the coming together with the Transit) and there is wiring (and bagged up Durite Econoseal connectors) behind the grill to fit a pair of spot lights if required.

Underneath there is the usual surface rust on the chassis but nothing that cannot be brushed off and painted over. I have never waxoyled it as I would rather see it in its true condition than wonder what is going on under a coating of sticky black goo. As mentioned above, it had the rear cross member replaced with a genuine parts one in 2009 so this is totally sound and has a genuine parts sliding tow bar fitted to it and I have recently fitted a new tow electrics socket as the original was playing up.

The original steel wheels have been replaced with 4 Freestyle alloys fitted with General Grabber AT2 265/75/16 tyres which have loads of tread left on them. The spare is an old BF Goodrich AT on a Discovery steel rim, it’s nothing special but it will do what it needs to as a spare. (I have the original steel wheels which have BF Goodrich Trac Edge tyres with decent amount of tread on them fitted but not sure what condition they are in?)

I replaced the rear window channel felt with new rubber channelling from Woolies Trim a couple of years ago so they do not rattle. I have also replaced the old split vinyl seat covers on the front seats with a set of grey cloth covers which are not only a lot warmer in the winter but also a lot more comfortable. The rear bench seats need the cushions replacing and I have a set of decent replacement black vinyl cushions waiting to be fitted. It also has a genuine parts dog guard fitted.

There is a stereo fitted but to be honest it has a removable face plate which has never really worked properly and although I planned to fit a replacement I have never got round to replacing it – there are plenty of Sony/Clarion/Alpine units for sale on eBay to make replacing it cheap and easy.

I will honestly be sad to see it go as it has done me proud in the years I have owned it but it I am sure it will be a great vehicle for someone who will appreciate it, maintain it and use it for what it was intended like I have.

As far as the price goes, I have been looking at online sale and auction sites and this Defender sits squarely between the £3-4k old and tired work horses in need of major TLC and the £8-10k polished ‘chelsea tractors’ so I am hoping to get £6,000 for it, or at least close to that sort of figure – but please tell me if I am way off the mark!

Please PM me if you are interested - vehicle is located near Winchester in Hampshire.[/b]

Still working on photos...

When I try to upload them they upload to server then I get the message "Connecting to album..." and that is as far as I can get - might have to PM Martin to see what I am doing wrong or whether there is a problem.

Meantime if you are serious and want photos then please PM me with an e-mail address and I will send them to you direct.

Cheers.

Try reducing the picture size so it is about 250k by reducing the pixel count in something like MS Paint - I have had problems when the picture is to large.
