From what I remember (memory not as good as it should be so check carefully) from fitting my Safari snorkel I think you need to drill out the heads of the 6 pop rivets at the bottom of the airbox, visible with the filter removed!

KF9 - thanks, i can't see any rivets from inside the box. the box is plastic and looks molded to the shape of the inner wing, half covering the the turret cap. i assume there has to be a simple way! currently foxed

Have you got A/C? The reason why I ask is that if you do you will have to remove the whole inner wing to remove the box.
L/R way of removing it is to undo the 3 bolts which are inside the arch that bolts the lower airbox mount and then you pull it out of the rubber bungs that hold it to the top of the arch..... Hard to explain. But you don't need to drill the rivets. Glyn   |

LR pdf of air intake box removal (courtesy of dgardel) in my gallery. Page 9 shows diagram of 3 bolts that Glyn refers to. LR instructions are fine if you just happen to have a fully equipped LR workshop to remove air con refrigerant!

Thanks for the PDF, i'll have a look after the rugby.
All I am trying to do is get access to the top of the damper so I can swap it out for a new one. The only issue is one screw holding on the turret cap, if I undo the rear one I can twist the cap down but not enough to give me access to the top of the damper. After seeing the PDF I was wondering whether I can detach the dirty air feed to the bottom of the air box thus giving me room to swing the cap out of the way. What should have been a fairly quick job it turning into a bit of a mission.  BM52 |

Removing the air box to fit the safari and seal it up.
Remove rivets and pull the airbox off the bracket - you dont need to unbolt it...just pull hard. Mike |

will i need to replace the rivets? on the other hand, just seen on the internet that you can remove the turret and shock from under the wing without removing the plastic cap? has anyone tried this method? thanks BM52 |

I thought you just disconnected the in and out pipes the air sensor and simply pulled ? 130's have feeling's as well you know

hold on, you dont need to take out the airbox. you just need a set of narrow mole grips to get onto the flat of the top of the damper. i've changed shocks twice and not had to do that. second time put on open turrets to make life even simpler

depends if your fitting extended strut turrets and longer shocks? personally, instead of removing the airbox when fitting my gwyn kit, i just removed the easy screw, and pulled the cover off, with the none accesable screw still in place. Then when refitting just drilled another hole that you can actually access, and refitted another self tapper.

Similar to above I was able to grip the awkward self tapping screw (sharp end) from underneath the wing using good mole grips.
I unscrewed it till only a tiny pip was left and not enough to grip. Then a tap with a hammer and blunt punch the the self tapper popped out. As above for replacing the cover, drill a new hole close to the offending one from under the wing and fit a stainless steel self tapper from the underside that is much more accessible to undo from under the wing. "You are never to old to learn something new" |
