Any experience with SP 4x4? (doors)
Just wondering if anyone has had experience with SP 4x4. I am considering getting one of these galvanised rear doors for my 1999 110. The major advantage is that everything will swap over whereas with a puma door I have to start from stratch ie new window, electrics trim etc.... Not too sure about the big difference between these two but the idea is the same:

I've used SP for the doors for my 90 build, they're absolutely fine. No experience with a rear door though.

I've had some series 3 door tops from them and they are very good.
Like Greeni I can't vouch for their rear doors, but their parts seem to be good quality and finished well,
Also their service is spot on. Wink 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

I bought a rear door off then the other year, the first one was dropped by the courier and they were quick to offer a discount or replacement. I'd have no issues ordering from them again. Russell

The top one is a galvanised frame with an aluminium skin, still a potential for galvanic reaction (corrosion in the aluminium) so I'd go with the bottom one which is galvanised frame & zinc plated skin so little if any risk of corrosion caused by dissimilar metals.

You're welcome. I was torn on the choice between aluminium or steel skin for my 4 new side doors - they are the same price. I decided to go for steel and I'm very happy with the result. Hopefully I'll be equally happy in 10 years time...

SP - very poor service
HI
i just thought i should advise members here of the extremely poor service i have received from SP panels - I ordered 2 door skins from the website, no receipt sent, late delivery, poorly packed and delivered to the wrong address 1/2 mile away - panels were bent and damaged and they took a week to reply to my return request via paypal and I have to pay upfront for the return. also no reply to any emails sent direct to them. This is the worst service I have ever received from any supplier and is a factual account. Plus the panels are zintec coated and not galvanised as advertised. Please be aware and avoid this company because if the goods get damaged there is very little in terms of customer service.

I too had problems with SP. The skins were very badly crimped to the frames and the body shop took days (£££) to get it to look acceptable.

What ever the coating may be it has started to corrode after 4-5 years of being fitted. I do accept that the paint job has a major part to play in this though.

That's my thoughts precisely. Frustratingly its due to have all the 5 "new" doors repainted soon. I'm always a little conscious that its a down hill battle once corrosion has started...

I have also had very poor service from SP 4x4 and cannot recommend them.

I ordered a pair of their all steel front-doors a few months ago and the service was awful (full run down is too long to go into).
One of the doors (which although ordered at the same time arrived 2-weeks apart with no notice of dispatch) had been manufactured incorrectly and the messages I received when requesting replacement were that the doors CANNOT be manufactured wrong as the are hand-made and I was the one who didn't know what I was talking about! The door was sent back and they eventually agreed that it was a manufacturing fault which would be rectified however even this was a halfhearted affair and although the doors are now in the process of being painted ready for fitment I am still not entirely happy.

If you want all steel doors you don't have much choice but I say look elsewhere and consider all options as SP 4x4 do not give anything like satisfactory service, if anything happened to my doors in the future I would certainly NOT be replacing it / them with SP 4x4 items as one bitten, twice shy.

I bought a couple of their S3 doors, they were terrible, welds failing and the hole for the door locks in the wrong place. I eventually got through to them and they took them back and gave me a full refund, I subsequently bought some from Paintman panels which were fine. My son bought some door tops from SP and they were ok.

I bought a Defender rear door from SP.

Bottom was warped so sent it back and replaced it with a door from Paintman Panels.

Haven't fitted it yet but it seems OK, so I've just had another delivered from Paintman today. Yet to open the package though.

Had a chat with the man at Paintman, who was willing to discuss how I can convert the latter door to fit early One Ten Station Wagon.

(The rear door sliding stay is a lot lower than on a Defender).

It will be a while before I fit either door (prep, painting, glass and furniture fitting this Autumn, so will report problems if there are any.

Doesn't the marine bonding keep the galv frame and ally skin apart? I'd like to avoid steel door skins as they rust when the paint is scratched? 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent
