Hi Leezg,
why not just install a Madman EMS, which will give you: EGT Oil Pressure (Engine) Water Temperature & Level Oil Temperature (Gearbox or Transfer Case) See how mine is mounted: ![]() Click image to enlarge You can order the kit from http://www.madman.co.za/ -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged ![]() ![]() Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Because they are bloody expensive for what they are!
Any particular reason for wanting a new temp gauge? If you use the original sender etc.. it will still only read what your current one says. I.e Cold, middle-ish or red, it won't give a precise temp unless you use a new sender. Stack do good ones for a reasonable price. Also since you have a TD5, TD5inside have been working on an 'infodash' which will give all readings and read fault codes. If thats of any use to you that is! |

expensive, sure, but cheaper than having an engine go bang
![]() My previous D2 Td5 was saved twice when the Madman informed me that coolant was low (the notorious welsh plug issue). -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged ![]() ![]() Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Very true, I always wanted one but recently they seemed to have upped the price enormously that plus the awful £. Last I checked a few months ago I think it was in the region of £400 for the whole EMS2 kit! (just saw youre in SA, so perfect for you!)
I routinely check my coolant after every long drive and usually once a week, along with brake fluid and engine oil. Paranoid? Maybe haha |

Madman is to expensive for me.
I would like to install a VDO sensor and keep the original one for the ecu. With a t piece maybe. Anyone do that? |

I presume you are aware that all of the TD5 dials are VDO vision dials with a slightly modified fascia (no logo) and a white needle rather than an orange one?
If you want to fit another VDO water temp gauge, you should find the standard sender is suitable for it and it can be a straight swap. Not sure if all the VDO gauges use the same terminal layout on the back but a VDO vision gauge will even be a straight plug in swap. Are you just looking for one with a numerical gauge? It wont be any different. It will read exactly the same as your current gauge. Cold - Middle-ish - Hot nothing else. |

I read somewhere that the VDO gauge with its own sensor reads realistic. That the vdo td5 one we have is made to show cold, middle, hot.
Ok, than another question Does anyone have a less expensive overheating alarm than the mudman? |

Yes. I mentioned it before Stack, comes with a new sender you have to fit and will read the actual temp of the coolant.

Just took a look at the infodash, looks great, has everything including diagnostics and alarms.
Does it do everything that nanocom does? |

I don't know, all I know is it can clear fault codes as well as read live data as shown. It's quite a small unit and could be fitted almost anywhere. Plugs into the OBD port and connects to the infodash via an ethernet/data cable.

There won't be any as it's not officially for sale yet, their website is still being updated and Jose is an extremely busy man.
I did get to have a look first hand when he remapped my 110 a few months ago, it looks like a good product! Does everything a Madman will do except oil pressure, but has an oil pressure alarm. Price wise it will be around £250 - £300 so about the same price of a Nanocom |
