Short, Sweet and looks quite nice.

So a nice quick and easy update, off down to the lakes this weekend to have a go at some green laneing with friends.

Which was a clear excuse to buy stuff! One of which is a Steering Guard!

After looking through the hundreds out there.... some very nice bowler ones to simple pieces of plate. We went for something with a bit of middle ground.

First Fours budget guard, steel powder coated with recovery rings.
Nice and easy to fit, when the brackets are on the right way round! Did't come with any instructions but with the help of google and Youtube it was easy enough!

All finished and looking rather sweet, really need to get on that rust!

a bit late (not sure how I missed this) - Welcome.

lovely looking truck and seems like you're doing great things. Thumbs Up

enjoy.

by the looks of things you're quite young and on that basis hopefully you've enough time on your side to sort the truck
(not your truck particularly but a defender)

unfortunately I feel I might be too old to ever get mine sort properly that's not going to stop my trying Mr. Green

Thumbs Up

I still think the best thing land rover could have done was to start selling it as a kit car.

Hi Caterham,

Thanks! Thumbs Up

Well I've definitely got the enthusiasm and determination but not sure about time. Unfortunately with a full time job, a dog and Scouting it feels like time quickly disappears! Sad

Love the truck though! Best meccano set ever! Very Happy Although my bank account might not agree! Chris

Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

So its time to finally see what our Landy can do... turns out... quite a bloody lot!

This weekend was spend exploring the Green Lanes of the Lake District!
With gorgeous weather and scenery (looks just like Scotland) the weekend was braw!

Driving down with the 90 packed on Friday night, meeting up with friends at a cottage on the edge of the lakes at Penrith.

Saturday, Up early and after a quick addition of a Diff Guard in the car park, we were off on a adventure.

With Peach and Kirsty (the more experienced of the group, with a very nice spec'd TD5 90) leading and Simon (swr), James and wee Ollie (Si, again with plenty of experience in his Discovery 3) we set off. Also meeting with a Gary and Angela who were tagging along (also in a D3).

Now, I would love to tell you which routes we took.... but I have no idea, all I do know is that they were fCensored interesting.

My only off road experience is a taster day at Silverstone, so this was one hell of an introduction!

Starting off on a few wee fords and a little forest trail, this seemed easy... oh how ignorance is bliss!

We then got to the bigger stuff, firstly, the rear brakes on the 90.. still don't really work, even after bleeding the system and freeing the calipers. Second, the clutch is needing replacing, oh third and kind of a big one Diff Lock wont stay in!

The photos below really don't do the terrain justice. Huge rocks, huge holes, huge ruts and huge gully's! Lots of swearing, cheering and the occasional crunch... IT WAS F***ING AWESOME!

Defender smiles all day long! Very Happy

Damage report...

New step required after smashing it on a rock.... Might as well upgrade to Rock sliders
F added her own dent to body work after getting cuddly with a rock.
The steering guard earned its rent when there was a nice clunk when going over a rock, along with the Diff Guard!

'Twas muchous fun.

Big smiles all round. Cracking intro to green lanes and weather to die for.

Notable lanes off the top of my head (excuse spelling)

Parkmoor
Timberthwaite
Grisdale forest

Linked with other lanes.

Some a tad narrow in a D3 and acquired some bramble rash.

All solid underneath but a fair bit of erosion be it weather/ use.

The lakes were unsurprisingly packed at the weekend. But everyone was plesent and seemed happy. Thumbs Up

Well hello, just spotted this as well. I too have a 53 plate in need of some lower door repair. So far I've removed the door cards, plastic sheet and removed the bottom rubber strip and drilled out the rivets. I've used por15 silver rust paint, a perfect match for zambezi silver with excellent results, followed by dintrol wax in the lower door cavity. I've riveted new rubber door seals and have the new water sheet to add next. Cheers

Blimey, is that one of the later all-steel doors? I thought they were galvanised? Darren
