Out for a run this afternoon. Heard a slight 'bang'/knock from infront of the gearstick area (clutch/bellhousing, which then sounded like something spinning round fast.
Moments later, LOTS of noise, so pulled over fast. Tried to turn over engine, but everything locked up. Put into gear, and rocked landy backwards a little. Tried to turn over. It would, but sounded like all my spanners were being thrown around in the bellhousing area. Suspect the clutch is at fault, so going to split over the nest week. If I am splitting, will replace the clutch etc anyway. Sorry for the waffle! Question is.. Has anybody purchased a clutch kit for a 300tdi lately? Been told from previous owner that our Defender has a Disco 300tdi and running gear init, but age of engine unknown. Until midnight, there is a discount code at eurocarparts. Thanks, and any feedback or comments needed!!! ha ha Andy |

Took gearbox out today (thanks to the boss for not moaning about it being mothers day).
First time I have dropped a rear wheel drive gearbox, so quite an adventure. Click image to enlarge Found the bellhousing to gearbox bolts either fallen out, or finger tight! One or two had decided to dance with the clutch! Click image to enlarge Whilst having a quick look at the damage, noticed the clutch release arm was showing the early signs of the common fault people are reporting. So certainly ordering a HD one. Click image to enlarge So its time to spend some money. Have a few oil leaks from the gearbox and transfer box, so will try and find out what it is worth replacing whilst everything is on the floor. Any feedback on what to replace, brands, and where to buy from needed and appreciated. Andy |

quick progress there! I've got a juddering clutch in my 300tdi and am working up the courage to dive in and fix it - or maybe waiting until it completely gives up. I take it that was a seat box out, gearbox out through door removal?
Don't know if it's any use/will work for you but I have a Eurocarparts discount code expiring today at midnight for 30%off - CRX25ZLG It may just be a single use code but I'm not planning to use it. 1996 300Tdi Defender 110 |

Thanks for the offer of the code. Dont know where I will be getting things from. Its a bloomin minefield of makes and suppliers!
Floors out. gearbox tunnel out, seatbox covers out. Seatbox and doors stayed in place, I should state that having a 2" lift on the Landy certainly helped! I'll send a photo of how it was slung if you want. It is a bit off an odd shape to lift. Ours fault caused a breakdown 13 miles from home, and 4 miles from any phone signal!! If you think it needs doing, might be worth getting prepared. If you need any info, feel free to pm. This was my first gearbox out job, so by no means am i an expert!! Andy |
