I looked into this myself, I am pretty sure that the Disco 2 has an ECU for the gearbox. I dont know if it is 'paired' with the engine ECU but it would be very likely. The older 14CUX stand alone ecu ( disco 1 ) wont transplant onto your engine as it wont do the ignition and your engine has no distributor.
There is always megasquirt... but a big learning curve ! 1984 300TDi hardtop Stornoway Grey 1984 200TDi hardtop..... soon to be a V8 .. but which V8 ? 1974 DAF T244 4x4 wagon converted to a motorhome 1976 Jaguar XJC with supercharged engine |

Thanks Jim, I think that confirms my thinking which is a pity as it was one sweet running V8. Will just have to keep looking for a D1 3.9 manual I guess.

Disco 2 V8 auto has a gearbox ECU which communicates via CANbus (yes, really!) with the engine ECU. It may be that the engine will run quite happily without the gearbox ECU but I don't know. I am sure that there are those who do know, on this forum.

Ashcroft sell the 'ECU' for the box, compushift. The box is a 4hp24eh, electric hydraulic as opposed to the 4hp22h (hydraulic) in a disco 1, this is the problem
