Hi
Does anyone have a view on fitting daytime running lights on a late defender. Ours is a bit dark and difficult to see in the country lanes, so I was thinking of side lamp replacements having seen an artiicle by Lindsay Porter, who incidentally was a previous owner of our 80". Many Thanks Swine 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue 1967 Morris Traveller 1966 Morris Convertible 2012 VW T5 Camper Quod Abundat Non Obstat. |

I picked up a refurbished Twisted DRL bumper which uses the Ring Aurora DRL's, but yet to fit them
But I also have halo headlights (not to everyone's taste!!), so currently tend to always drive with side lights on, so at least have some lights on the rear as well. Might be a stupid question but have you thought of just turning on your lights?

Hello Swine&Small
In general you should view DRL's as a modification to help make your vehicle seen by others, and not as providing (significant) extra light, to aid driving. Upgrading existing Lights, or fitting a Light Bar is probably where you should look. SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Hello,
The point of my question was that while driving down narrow dark country lanes around here it is difficult for other road users to sometimes see us. I have tried using normal lights on during the day, but all this seems to do is generate a lot of headlamp flashing from other road users, whereas they seem to see and recognise DRL's for what they are. Having used a suggestion makde to us, I used the search facility and have mnow found the replacement front side lights that I was looking for. Thanks to all for the help 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue 1967 Morris Traveller 1966 Morris Convertible 2012 VW T5 Camper Quod Abundat Non Obstat. |

There are a few solutions available. Mostly built into a new front bumper and seem to cost between £150 -£250 depending on style. Easy to fit, a good upgrade in my opinion. My 90 Project : http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic52774.html |

I bought a set of CREE LED DRLs from ebay which included the controller HERE which cost me £30 at the time and I took my bumper to a local engineering firm and asked them to cut two holes where specified, using the bezel from the lights as a size guide which cost me £20.
After a couple of hours of wiring them in and fitting the lights in the bumper, I had a DRL bumper for £50 which was far more palatable than the £200 some firms want to charge for precisely the same thing... Click image to enlarge [/img] Phil |

I highly recommend the D44 bumper with inset lazer RS4's. If you have the spare cash that is.

When I am change lights to french versions I am again adding the "DRL bumper".
This came to me with the Land Rover from the man I buy from. In the beginning I am of thought to put away the new bumper until the original was badly in need of replacement. Finally, I do different and fit this bumper now before the registrations in France for this car. For now the "DRL" are compulsory on new registration cars unless a classic age which is 30 years. They work well, automatic action when starting the engine and off automatic when real lights are activated. When I arrive home, they return on again when I stop the engine and remain on for 60 seconds which is convinent to arrive at my door and open when dark. I like this system and recommend this addition. Léo I put also a picture for you to watch: |
