So today was interior light day. I'd had a quick scan of eBay for something suitable, which had turned up some incredibly cheap 72 LED strip lights - so cheap that they were worth a punt.
Click image to enlarge First job was to make some brackets to mount the light above the rear door. LED's can be bit directional so I wanted to have the light angled to point down into the vehicle. I hacked up a couple of fence panel brackets, bent them to shape and bolted on the spring loaded brackets that came with the light: Click image to enlarge These were then mounted to the lip of the roof above the door: Click image to enlarge With both fixed, the light slotted into place: Click image to enlarge Wiring was straightforward, back to the switch box shown earlier. All I need now is some darkness to try it out. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? My 90 is fitted with actual windscreen hinges that are never likely to be needed so I thought I'd swap them for some of the later hinge blocks. I picked up a pair for not much money from eBay, which of course were the wrong colour. I planned to give them a light rub down and respray them but I got a bit carried away with the polishing wheel and ended up back at bare metal, so here they are after a couple of coats of etch primer

Had a slightly frustrating day, yesterday. I started off with all good intentions to replace the wiper wheel boxes and drive cable, and fit the twin washer mod whilst I had it all in bits. I'd bought all of the new parts in preparation and was good to go but, as seems to be the way with these things, it all took longer than expected
I took the top of the dashboard apart, which was relatively straightforward except for needing to remove the drivers side windscreen vent to access the wheel box on that side. This meant also taking the instrument binnacle out. Behind the scenes, everything was filthy with 25 years of accumulated dust. I eventually got to removing the wiper motor, drive cable and wheel boxes. The spigots on the latter were completely seized on and so I had to resort to a hacksaw to release them. The motor gearbox was leaking a sticky fluid and, when I eventually got it out and apart, I think I've discovered why the wipers were so slow. The gearbox and drive cable appear to have been packed with a very stiff grease, which created a huge amount of resistance. The cable was thrown away but I then spent a happy hour degreasing the gearbox and insides of the drive cable tubes. No 'before' picture as the grease got everywhere but here is the 'after': Click image to enlarge The wheel boxes were also were also covered in the same sticky grease and it's that combined with the lack of wear that makes me think it was the problem: Click image to enlarge The poor original paint job together with the need to wield a hack saw in a confined space meant I'd taken off some of the paint in a few areas under the windscreen, revealing the pink below! I cleaned up the damage and touched it up with some of the correct blue, but of course that meant it was wet and I couldn't fit the new parts I also discovered that the two washer jets that I'd bought, despite being in identical packets with the same part number, were different. One of them was a rear washer and so wouldn't fit anyway. At that point I realised that I wouldn't get it finished. I spent a bit of time cleaning up some of the trim I'd removed and then turned to the hinge blocks that I'd been preparing. Over the previous two days, I'd been carefully applying several coats of Arles blue and a lacquer finish over the etch primer shown above. As they were nice and dry, I made some gaskets from 1mm rubber sheet and tacked them in place with a few small dabs of superglue, ready for fitting: Click image to enlarge At least I'm at the reassembly stage, now. A new washer jet should arrive tomorrow and I hope to get it all back together over the next couple of evenings. Thank gawd for lighter evenings! Yeah, I know. The joys of running an old Land Rover
Got the wheel boxes and one correct washer jet installed this evening, so it's heading in the right direction again. I replaced my wiper cable and boxes a few years ago. If properly greased on installation they last well and are really smooth and quiet 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

That's good to know. I plan to use white grease on all of the moving parts. Darren

Progress has been slower than I'd hoped in the evenings this week, but I have at least now plugged all of the holes
