Just completed my first home service as the 90 is now out of warranty and I used Millers C1 for the oil from site sponsor Oipe Oils. I will be changing it every 6thou now with an oil and filter drop between 12thou services.
If you want funny this is its 13th service 156thou miles numerous visits to the dealer for other things, I can guarantee I am the first person that has shown the propshafts some grease. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough. Months into the new 6thou regime with the Millers I can report a 2mpg improvement over the Main Dealers Castrol Edge, also I had to have my clutch done as the same time as a service so I let them do it, fuel went down to 27mpg, then back up to 29mpg on the Millers. My 90 is very heavy all the time and I drive the Motorways at only 110km/h 68/69 indicated 65 on the garmin If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

My 110 has just had its first service and the oil they used was Total Quartz 5W/30 (14 x 0.5 litres @ £6.75 each)
I have not seen this on your lists so wondered if this is another option? |

This is my understanding too, the 2.4 can use the 2.2 spec stuff but not vice versa. Dealers will usually have a couple of large barrels of the most common oil they use and just pump it into a jug. For anything more obscure they'll just order in 5ltr bottles of it via the supply chain. I think at the factory they'll use what ever has the best deal. But they will work with suppliers, so you'll notice in the handbook you'll see the recommend a particular brand, this is part of a deal with the supplier, that if they recommend their brand, the suppler lets them have the oil a bit cheaper. It's like tyres, the tyre manufactuers know most of the general public will just go along to a tyre place and ask for the same as it already has on there when they wear out or get damaged, so the factory gets the tyres for a really cheap price as the manufacturer knows they'll make more money from selling replacements. |

There are however different grades of Mobil 1, if you don't use the low ash version, you'll end up needing a new DPF.

NB: After writing this I realized the numbers are different for 2.2. I find these Ford numbers difficult to distinguish.
WSS-M2C-934-B is for 2.2 have to search other places. Source is here http://www.oilspecifications.org/ford.php Ford WSS-M2C913-B The Ford M2C913-B specification is released in Europe for initial fill engine oils used for lubrication of spark ignition engines using gasoline and for compression ignition engines using diesel fuels. The specification is also used to define engine oils for servicing Ford engines where applicable. The oil shall meet all the requirements of the ILSAC GF-2 and GF-3 specification, the ACEA A1-98 and B1-98 specification and additional Ford requirements. Ford WSS-M2C913-C Fully backwards compatible and is strongly recommended for all applications that currently require the specification Ford M2C913-B. The new engine oil provides various benefits to the customer such as improved fuel economy benefits and high robustness to biodiesel fuels. I have a 2.4 2010 Defender Puma. But nonetheless you can see from here that either of these will do. I live in Myanmar but I went to Thailand and to a ford dealer there and bought Castrol Magnatec Professional A5 5w-30 which is WSS-M2C913-C and is api SN and ILSAC GF-4. It comes in 4L bottles. I bought 2 x 4 L for $70US or 57 Pounds UK. This is cheaper than any oil I could find at Shell or Liqui Moly. So I would suggest you try a ford dealer to get the oil for your ford engine. 2010 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 TDCI. |

I just looked in the handbook for my 2012 2.2 and on the lubricants page it says 'Land Rover recommends Castrol', then quotes various Texaco and Shell lubricants for the hubs and diffs etc, but for the engine oil it simply says SAE 5W-30 with no mention of the exact brand or specs that it should meet.

^^^ I have made the same comment in a thread about oil specs (maybe this one or a different one). The workshop manual has the full spec. and many online product selectors ( for example ... http://www.commaoil.com/products/results/92085637 if the link works once pasted) give the spec. But as you say, the owners handbook simply says 5w-30.
It would be interesting to see what happens if JLR refused a warranty claim etc due to wrong oil if you proved you had complied with the only specification they have given you. |

Hello - i have a Puma 2.2 2015 and have just completed an oil and filter change. The oil I was recommended by a Land Rover dealer was Mobile ESP. They advised they use this oil which is superior to Mobile 3000?
Can someone advise if this oil is okay? |

Doing the due diligence for the 2.2 owners in my neck of the woods, unfortunately, the oils from LiquiMoly and Motul that meet the standards and ratings set are not available here. A knowledgeable oil vendor here says that LiquiMoly Top Tec 5W-30 4605 can work. It has the rating of WSS-M2C917-A. Can it be used by the 2.2 Pumas?
