P1169 - what to do?
I have just got MIL light on and P1169 on the ScanGauge (Fuel Rail Pressure in Range But High).
It has happened after cold start (-16'C outside temp.) - after acceleration the engine continued on throttle for a second and showed me code/MIL.

After searching the forum my bet is Q068 patch (which I do not have). Can it be something different?

The nearest LR service is 200 km away - I do not want to go there on limp mode (can I reset it with ScanGauge?).
The car is not under warranty (VIN 733201).

Hello,

It happens when engine is cold. My father had it three times before LR update his ECU and now it never occurs again. I think you can erase it till you go to dealer to update (no need to go immediatly) and drive slowly before your engine is hot enough(more than 5°C if I remember).

Thumbs Up

It's not immediately relevent to your problem, but mught be of interest to know that my Defender also does not (yet) have Q068 nor the modified sump, having been serviced by independent garages since its first service. However although it is out of warranty the local dealer has assured me that both will be done as a matter of course and free of charge if I take it for a service at a main dealer.

Service Action Number: Q068

Engine Lacks Power and MIL Light On

When driving following a cold engine start where the engine coolant temperature is <5>35° and a gear change is made at an engine speed of >2000rpm there is a possibility that the High Pressure rail control valve can stick and cause high rail pressure, which trips a diagnostic, relieves the rail pressure causing the customer to see an engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) light on with restricted performance and P1169 and/or P0089 Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) stored in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Action to be taken
You are requested to contact the owners of the affected vehicles and request that the vehicle is made available at the earliest opportunity for the vehicle to be inspected and where necessary reconfigure the engine PCM with the latest calibration files.

No.LTB00153/2008
This Technical Bulletin is to advise Authorized Repairers that the fuel metering valve and fuel pressure relief valve are now available as serviceable parts. It is no longer necessary to replace the complete high pressure fuel pump for concerns related to the fuel metering valve and no longer necessary to replace the complete fuel rail for fuel pressure relief valve issues.

Possible symptoms of fuel metering valve and or fuel pressure relief valve concerns include.

Difficult starting.

Misfire.

Lack of power.

Driveability issues.

(DTC) codes P0089 and/or P1169 maybe stored.

Personally I would reset it with the scangauge. I have had this exact fault and the MIL will reset after 4 driving cycles on its own. The limp home mode will reset after you restart the engine.
