Kev Baldwin from Mud UK is over there now. Drop him a line and he will probably be able to help you with some advice. I have been following him on facebook just recently and its bloody cold over there right now - I think he said -35 to -40 at times. He mentioned re-fuelling, leaving the engine running, but the temp needle still dropping to the bottom.

Ask away, if there's anything you need, drop me a line. To ship your vehicle here, your best bet is to send it through to Tacoma Washington, most of the import vehicles come thorough there, it's about a 2 hour drive north to Vancouver. Sending it RORO (roll on roll off) will be less expensive than container shipping, but I don't think you are allowed to have anything in the vehicle. If going with a container, you could ship straight to Vancouver, ship additional gear with the truck, but it's a higher cost. Many thanks for coming back to me. I will be shipping by container as I will have a lot of camping gear, spares,mrecovery kit with me. But Tacoma is a good option. Do you know if there are any difficulties or special requirements to import a Defender temporarily into the Us and Canada? Are there any recommended routes across Canada? I like wilderness! And plan to camp. Is there a 4x4 club that could give me some advice? Thanks Geoff 90 Puma 2.4 Overland travels. |

Coming in as a visitor with a vehicle should be no problem, I'll look into any information tat may be available. Wilderness wise.. BC is full of it. You could spend weeks on Vancouver Island, and months on the BC mainland alone. Then into Alberta, Rocky Mountains...

"As a visitor or temporary resident, you can bring a vehicle into Canada for your own use.
Under Section 7(1)(b) of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (MVSA), a motor vehicle may be admitted temporarily into Canada without complying with the Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations if it is to be used exclusively by a person entering Canada as a visitor or a person passing through Canada to another country" http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/motorvehiclesafety...s-1334.htm Pretty sure the maximum stay on a UK passport is 6 months, no Via required. If you are going to hit the 6 months before you are done your trip, dip down to the US for a couple days, then come back to Canada. Funnily enough I am also planning on shipping my 90 to Canada, probably next year though. Thinking of starting
on the East Coast (Halifax) and not rushing too much but heading West towards the Yukon & Alaska Insurance for Canada & US looks like it may be an issue but companies like Progressive may be able to assist although it helps having some sort of address in the region. Regards Dave |
