Bulkhead/Windscreen Bracket
I know its a common affliction - but serious the car is only 16 months old and ive noticed the corrosion setting in! Shocked

the $64000 get the gore replacements or get the dealer to fix it (or both!)

its got to go back for some normal warranty paint work anyway - in fact the thing keeps going in for paint defects! Mike

Personally dealer first after all it's under warranty plus it saves you £90 and it gives you another 20 mths to save up for some Gore ones Very Happy Cogito ergo sum

Dealer fixed mine twice on previous Defender under warranty. Lasted 18 months each time. New car also showing signs at 18 months. Going to fix it myself and see if I can do better! However no other paint warranty jobs so far.
As you have corrosion I would let the dealer fix it.

I'd have the dealer do it. Go all over the car in great detail and note down any other little bits that are starting, around the alpine windows for example, and pull back the front door seals just behind the top door hing and see if there is any, get it all sorted at the same time.

Thanks - its been in for about 4 months total just for body shop work its already booked in for more...hence i cant be bothered, but it looks like i will.

From what i understand, the dealers body shop has to follow JLR instructions to repair which arent how a body shop would repair it - which is why have got a spare set of hinges and needing a 3rd set Mike

I would try complaining to JLR customer services directly, telling them the bodyshop say they can provide a permanent fix but JLR's procedures wont allow any more than a temp fix, you'll probably get a standard response along the lines of "our procedures ensure a factory finish etc..." when that happens escalate it. I think there's a chance you'll be able to get them to agree to pay the body shop and let them do it properly.

been there and its "it can keep going back until its done right" the problem is, say for the hinges, they arent allowed to fix the material quality so the originals we fine and all the replacements are bad. Mike

Well the body shop can't change the material quality, all they can do is change the way the paint them, ie the types of primers etc that LR specify.

If you wanted to you could probably buy billet ones and get the bodyshop to spray them under the warranty, they can then just put down that they refinished the original ones rather than replace. It really depends how cooperative the dealer body shop wants to be.

Just replaced my window /bulkhead blocks. Interesting findings:
Blocks 18 months old since new. Treated from new with wax polish.
No apparent corrosion on bolts or screw threads.
Problem seems to be the way they are painted. There is no paint or top coat on backs of blocks. This means that if any slight damage occurs at point of contact with gasket, then water gets in and corrosion occurs.
They seem doomed to fail due to the manufacture/paint process, with little or no evidence of dissimilar metal reactions. The goo round the threads in the photo is the glue used to fix the gasket to the block.
