Removing rear, 2nd row, seats from an xs station wagon

Hi,

I'm going on rather a long trip -so it would be nice to reclaim the space taken up by the rear seats (behind the driver, I've already deleted the two in the very back!)

Question, is it just a matter of removing the two set screws and nut on each bracket then lifting out? I seem to remember reading somewhere about that you have to be wary of the rather strong springs on the brackets? If so, is there a trick to dealing with them?

How much room do you need...

Last year we Went to Annecy in the 110 and i looked at removing them but heads spinning and thought this looks a pain of a job and not something i would want to do when I got back putting them in. (the kids like using them also)

So left them in...

You can still fit a HUGE amount in the book, we were away over 2 weeks and coming back also had 34 bottle of wine, I used them folded up as a false shelf but could still see out the rear, pack stuff on the inside of them also.

For me it was not worth it, the kids enjoy using them when we are out and I'm always amazed how much stuff the 110 can take unlike even big estate cars I have owned.

Loads! I'm going on a stargazing / ham radio trip with my caravan, so I need the space for all that kit and the caravan kit, and no I can't load up the 'van as she has a very limited payload already taken up with the domestics, clothing, etc, plus I would like to take my mountain bike inside the defender as well 😳

Was it your head that was spinning or the nuts and bolts, I assume that there are captive nuts for the set screws/bolts?

Mine it was the heads... it happened on two on the same side so thought this is going to be a real pain and then I need to refit them all for a two week holiday.

With what we took and brought back we were ok, careful packing and stuff sacks

If you have a rack maybe a roof box easier?

Yours maybe easy? so give it a go

I take mine in and out all the time. I allow an hour including fitting removing the dog guard. Just fitted them again as taking scouts over to braemar for the weekend.

It is slow but easy to do on your own.

Edit: Just reread the post - Sorry I was referring to the rearmost seats and not the "middle" row as per the original post!

The springs on the double seat are a bit arkward. One holds the seats up and one holds them down. Just do them in the right order so they don't snap back. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

Hi ChrisWoods,

This was what I heard. What's the right order?

In the manual it says to loosen the lower bolts, then remove the upper bolts and nuts then remove the seat. Is this what you mean?

I can't remember off the top of my head but if you slacken them all you will see which way the hinges are trying to pull. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

Make sure you have a second set of hands to assist you. The /40 side of the seat is heavy, but manageable, the /60 side is a tank, heavy and awkward. Once unbolted, lifting it out of the vehicle is a bit of work whilst being careful not to cause and damage to the seat and body. it's a Landrover thing...

Did this on my own..

Only issue is getting the seats back in and not scratching up the body internals (on a pov-spec at least, maybe you have carpet?) Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...
