Best Route Westerham in Kent to Holyhead ?
Took a bit of a punt and won a nice clean TD5 Disco 2 on ebay. Very Happy
As if 2 defenders isn't enough of a drain on my finances Rolling with laughter

Now I have to get it back here to Ireland and looking for a heads up, from all you Uk folk on the best route to take and the likely journey time, traffic issues etc......I was thinking, fly into Gatwick, collect the Land rover from Westerham, drive to Holyhead or would I be better going off going to Pembroke or Fishguard, Plan to travel next Saturday the 25th.

Congrats mate😃

As for which route, it is as long as it is short really. Except of course one route leads right past my house and the other to Pembroke...

Ah, Westerham to a long way North... there's a connundrum..!

I'd be tempted to avoid the suggestion of heading through the Dartford Tunnel and north around the M25 and up the M1 as it's normally grimmer than grim and there are now all sorts of average speed cameras on the M25, roadworks on the M1 and, would you believe, yet more average speed cameras...

Personally, I'd head around the southern M25, picking up the M40 which is currently OK.

Head all the way up the M40, left onto the M42 (bizarrely in Lanes 3 or 4 to do so..) and then north on the M5 to skirt around Birmingham and onto the M6 (if needing the A5 for Holyhead) or heading across country to Pembroke.

Fair ol' journey!

Pretty much what Disco says. If you go off the M40 onto the M42 the other way you can take the M6 toll. Will add £5.50 to your journey but a lot less stress depending on state of Birmingham traffic. Then off at Jn 20 onto M56 and A55 into Holyhead. ( Holyhead looks quicker for you to get back to Kildare.) 1995 Defender 110 CSW

Hello Nidge

I live in Berkshire...(wait this is relevant) and our Business has had a project in Westerham since 2015,
I have driven this route 30 times over as many months, If you draw a line from Westerham to Holyhead
you go through Berkshire (M4) more or less...

Westerham to Holyhead
If you asked Sat Nav you'll get a number of options including heading west out on the M4 rather than going
further round the M25 and getting straight on the M40

If you want to test your new purchase and drive it to Holyhead... Shocked , the main thing that will determine the 'pleasure' of this journey is when you do it

When I go to Westerham I leave at 5.30am and are there at 6.30am any later and if the M25 goes wrong you can double or triple your journey time...easy... Thud

For me I would do this very (very) early, or over night (Sunday maybe you could do more in daylight hours)
but it's the same for any journey anywhere now (UK), you just can't go early enough.

Route Plan...
Leave Westerham going west on the A25
Pick Up M25 (Junction 6) and head round to join the M40 (Junction 16)
(all of this bit should be in the very early hours)
Birmingham
Wales
Holyhead

Good Luck SKIP
