Hello mse
Do you mean... getting your 'full' licence parts B and E knowing if you need a type approved towing frame knowing your MRO (Mass Running Order) knowing your MAM (Maximum Authorised Mass) knowing your MPW (Maximum Permissible Weight) knowing your GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) knowing your MTPLM (Maximum Technically Permitted Laden Mass) knowing you MPTW (Maximum Permissible Towing Mass) knowing what restrictions you have if your Trailer is Unbraked knowing the width rule changes in the UK (2010) knowing the towing speeds across Europe knowing the speed signs to be displayed in Europe knowing the rear lighting requirements in Europe or what rear view mirrors to fit... Before I went and passed my B+E, I could tow a heavier trailer behind my Seat ibiza than behind my defender....
Any questions?! |

No I have my B+E and C and D1 - its the silly rules around C and all the combinations of trailers and how things arent thought through and then grandfather rights.
So crazy example, i can tow a plated C1 vehicle behind the defender...but i cant tow the defender behind the same C1 vehicle! There are many other madnesses, but thats the one that im ranting at!!!
Ignoring towing speeds but the 3050 UK unladen limit v the european 3.5t limit meaning in the UK some vehicles can drive faster than they can in Europe. Mike |

for Grandfather rights. Mind you I did start towing and driving H.G.V. artic units around a certain I.C.I. site at 17.
Thank God I don't have to deal with offences connected with towing anymore , gone are the days of towing anything as long as it was safe. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Its got a little ridiculous - there isnt any logic to it either
Like the example above 7t is different to 7t - where one is less safe than the other, apparently. But then its ok for grandfather rights people to go to 8.25t, but not 12. I appreciate you need to draw the line somewhere...but the line could be consistent and clear but meaning different things Eg in the example above the +E could give 3.5t towing on all categories etc etc At the minute there are people with different types of +E entitlement - if i did my +E tomorrow, i found out i would be limited to (from memory) 3.5t and a 7 ton combination - but older +E's dont have that restriction - so you could couple the brakes and go higher Back to my c example 750kg on a car i get...but 750kg on a rigid is nothing and not sensible Mike |
