Ineos to build 4x4
I heard on the radio this morning that Ineos are recruiting Automotive engineers with a view to building a 4x4 to fill the gap in the market left by the end of Defender production.

This is great news, especially if the rumours that new defender is likely to be built on a Discovery 3 chassis are true!

Sounds exciting:

I find this hard to believe that Jim Ratcliffe, CEO of Ineos would want to invest in such a venture as this as it does not fit in with his usual business strategy. He has been known for buying up assets with the potential to double their earnings over a short period. He is reputed to have a net worth of over £3 billion so maybe he just wants to splash some cash but by the time his "new" 4x4 hits the showrooms JLR will have a new Defender. Can't help thinking this is just another fake news story. Defender 90XS SW

There's a lot more to a Defender than just being a 4X4.
I'm not impressed by this possible project at all.

If you'd read any of the articles you'd realise that the man in charge is a huge Defender fan and is more than aware of the Defender's qualities and unique charm. He intends to take the existing Defender and make it what it could have been if Land Rover had been bothered to address any of it's numerous problems.

If Land Rover's efforts are based on the discovery 3's heavy lumbering 5mm steel chassis with its inadequate suspension, I for one will not be impressed by that possible project at all.
