Replacement steering wheel grief.
Continuing the theme of a new Defender owner who bought things prematurely and is trying to sort it out after the fact!

I bought a steering wheel on ebay.

Seller quote 'Has been on a TD5. Believe 48 splines but not sure'

It doesn't fit my 2008 Puma.

The guts.

What do I need to buy to make it fit? Is it worth the effort?

Thanks

It looks to be 48 splines counting the sprockets.

I like the look of it (if it will fit a series) Thumbs Up

Good luck fitting it you may need a Boss but I'm not sure? is there any name / make on the wheel you can look up?

Hello petestaunch

A 2008 Station Wagon looks to be a 36 Spline...but the Steering Wheel looks good so maybe source a replacement Boss and you can use it...check the PCD (Hole Positions) for any swap over Boss, pairing it to your Wheel

Judging by that table then, his hard top will be 48 spline, but the steering wheel in the picture is 36?

By my count steering wheel looks to be a 36 spline as would make sense for for a td5.

The puma could be 36 or 48 dependent on version, but as it doesn't fit you can assume 48!

Should be able to source a 48 spline boss that will mate to your wheel.

Again, possibly moronic question but I am just counting the little ridges, correct? In that case it's 36 spline.

I was just told by the mechanic that 'it wouldnt fit'. Is there any other reason it wouldnt fit?

Thank you all for your help, and yes it looks like a Mountney. Heading to their site now

Re: Replacement steering wheel grief.
Hi petestaunch

Your replacement wheel is fitted with a 36 Spline Boss (yes the 'ridges' are counted)
If it doesn't fit your Defender then you (probably) have a 48 Spline Steering Column
(Take the existing wheel off and count the Splines on the Column)

36 Spline Boss

48 Spline Steering Column

As it's easier to change the Boss than your Steering Column your options are:
1 Change the Boss to a 48 Spline Unit
2 Sell your Replacement wheel and start again
3 Do nothing

You have to answer your initial question...

If you can measure the pcd then yes.

PCD being the size of the circle that all the bolts sit on the perimeter of.
