removed the fault codes
Could start the car again. Kept the car above 2.000 RPM, than suddenly went down and code P117D - Fuel Volume Regulator Control Exceeded control Limit. Checked the blue valve on top of the fuel rail hose. there was hardly pressure, no fuel came out. Where to start checking the system? |

Unsure, but it's possible that fault is referring to the 'Volume Control Valve' (VCV), which is a small sensor attached to the high-pressure fuel pump?
A dodgy unit causes all sorts of subtle (and maybe not so subtle in your case) weirdness in terms of fuel delivery when the ECU isn't getting the correct info. At my level of mechanics testing it amounts to replacing it with a known working one: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic52142.html Not 100% that the 2.2 uses the same pump though... EDIT >> should add that if you go down this route that replacement requires some 'learning' procedures to be done with the ECU to optimise the new valve with the fuelling system. You can drive without the procedures but best not leave it long, dealer can do it, or an independent with the right gear. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

Completely different engine and car but might be of some use?
Had a Volvo v70 D5 a few years back that I had nothing but trouble with, at first the car drove lovely with no issues, then I kept getting dpf issues just as you describe,, temp gauge faulty, constantly blocked, always in limp home mode, constantly doing a re-gen, fuel pressure sensor fault, it went on for ages until I found a firm that could remove the software from the ecu and hollow it out. I hoped this would be the end of it but it turned out that 2 of the rockers on the cam had snapped causing the engine to ruff and over fuel to compensate, this then caused the dpf to block which masked the issue with the engine, If had of realised the initial fault was with the engine I would have saved myself a lot of money, my advise would be to look past the dpf as being the fault for something that may cause the engine to over fuel. |
