There's got to be a market for a small 4x4. Suzuki have done well out of it. My wife had a Rav4...and I ended up driving it more than she ever did! It was a cracking little car. My wife also had a Shogun Pinin, which was incredibly reliable, and I had a Shogun V6 - fantastic. But Mitsubishi have lost the plot now. I didn't realise until the other day that the Suzuki Grand Vitara, which is amazingly small, has a 2.4 litre petrol engine!

^^ And the Skoda Yeti, 4x4 with a 2.5l diesel engine. A very capable car and exceptionally well built.

It's not my cup of tea, as I drive a Fiat van all day, and it's crap. And when it went wrong, Fiat weren't interested...under warranty! I had to threaten to withhold my leasing payments.

I like that Bronco concept. More than the DC100. Nice straight lines and the angled front and rear corners would be great off the road. I believe there was even speculation that had windscreen vents Smile

Ford is bringing the Ranger back to the US. They are going to make some kind of Bronco. Everyone is pointing to the Bronco being Ranger's sibling vehicle, the Everest. If the new Bronco is a rebadged Everest, There will be a meltdown in the Ford enthusiast community.
However, recent news is that it will have solid axles and Ford is now swearing that it'll be a rough, tough, true off-road vehicle. Im not a big Ford fan these days but I am a former big Bronco owner (1994 Bronco XLT) and I would hate to see the Bronco return as a watered down half assed attempt to cash in on the iconic name.

But as of right now, the only people who know for sure what the Bronco is going to be is....the people working on the Bronco. Its not supposed to come out until 2020, so there's plenty of time to get to right.

I tend to prefer the Bronco to the DC100.

About time we have some US vehicles over here rather than Euroboxes. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

A little design history lesson, if you dont mind. Do bear with me...

The vehicle shown is a Ford of America design concept that was created in 2004 under J Mays, at a time when Land Rover was a member of their Premier Brand Group.

Mr Mays had a thing about identifying the icons and re-creating them. Amoungst them, a somewhat boxy looking modern AC Cobra roadster, and an excellent take on the 1964 Cobra Daytona Coupe, called the GR1.

The two most successful ones, which made it to production, are the Ford GT, which is an upscaled 1966 GT40, and the modern Ford Mustang, which kick-started another muscle car war in Detroit.

Unhappy with what Land Rover and Jaguar were doing themselves, he asked his American design teams to do proposals for the XK8, Range Rover .....and also the Defender.

There are very obvious Defender cues in the design, although some details can also be attributed to the original Ford Bronco.

They were also obviously influenced by the, then quite successful Hummer H2, which had been shown for the first time in 2002.

J Mays has since retired, and a different wind blows through Detroit.

I doubt very much that any of this design will re-appear in a new Bronco.

I personally quite liked it. Straight lines and billet like features. As with the Hummer, the problem starts when they turn it into a production vehicle, and all those solid macho looking features turn out to be made of cheap plastic. It just isnt authentic any more.

That "authenticity" is what I love about the majority of the Defender....

Land Rover, are you reading this? Please! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Very nicely put.
