Adventure - Insurance issues continuing
Is anyone else with a 110 Adventure having problems with insurance?

Ive read a few issued before, I posted on here last year soon after I bought mine. Insurers refusing to quote because it has been registered as a Light Utility body rather than an Estate like all other Defender Station Wagons.

I've found only 1 insurer who will touch me and it's a lot more than it should be, they all say because the car has 7 seats it cannot be a van, and as it's registered as a utility vehicle it cannot have 7 seats otherwise it's considered a non-standard mod.

I'm at my wits end, have been back and forth with Land Rover who at first said it had been incorrectly registered, and are ow saying they made a mistake telling me that and in fact it has been registered correctly. They still cannot explain why this is different to every other station wagon variant that is registered as an 'Estate'

I'm still in communication with them but wondered if others had had the same issues and what you've done about it? do you have a 110 Adventure and what 'body type' is showing on your V5?

Cheers

Sorry to hear that. I've never been accused of not being rural enough.
Tried Adrian Flux? They do a lot of specialist vehicles and call themselves Land Rover experts.... https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews

Am still trying - they've come back to today and actually retracted that they'd registered it incorrectly (think they mean the model itself - in terms of homologation) and in actual fact it's correct. This doesn't therefore explain why insurers say it is registered as a van and shouldn't have 7 seats.

Am awaiting a further response tomorrow - I've never had this issue with a 5/7 seat Defender before.

This doesn't therefore explain why insurers say it is registered as a van and shouldn't have 7 seats. because it is registered on the insurers date base incorrect, same problem with pickup took me 18 mouth to get then to registered the correct information on the insurers date base. LR registered it correctly with DVLA Exclamation

I'm not convinced LR have registered it correctly - it has a body type of 'Light 4x4 utility' whereas it should be an 'Estate' which is I believe what standard 4 or 7 seat Station Wagons are registered as.

Isn't it something to do with LR registering all Defenders as commercial vehicles on the V5 to avoid the crippling VED? Did it start around 2011 just before the 2.2? https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews

That's the taxation class - it's a different thing to body type. My 64 plate Defender was still classes as a Light Good Vehicle' for tax purposes but the body type was 'Estate' - it's the seats that are the issue - as soon as it gets to the number of seats they refuse to quote saying it doesn't fit with what has been registered.

Mine is a 2003 station wagon (not county) but first registered in 2010 as it was used by the RAF. It has 9 seats from build which caused me problems as insurance companies don't want to insure more than 8.

On the V5 it has a body type of 'light 4x4 utility.

I managed to get insured by the local NFU branch as the national NFU wouldn't insure it.

If there is a local NFU branch try them as they will have more options available.

My '16 plate is Light Goods Vehicle on the V5. Other had any issues with NFU. It won't be good for LEZ when Euro 6 is banned though. Has to be an Estate. 1951 80" S1 2.0

Light Goods Vehicle is the taxation class, what does your body type say? (should be just above it)

Hi Jimmyovskio, I feel your pain and frustration, I had it last year, by the sounds of it , to be repeated again! My 110 Adventure Body type "Light 4x4 Utility" I recall speaking to NFU, gave me a quote but very unrealistic, they said problem was it was classed as a Van! So a commercial vehicle, not on their motor car database, I did explain about the 7 seats, but the computer said no...
Interesting a friend has a 110 XS Station Wagon reg last year which is also body type "Light 4x4 Utility" and received a very low realistic quote off NFU. It seems to me their has been a breakdown of communication between LR and the Insurance companies recorded classification on the Adventure and I think the other out going celebration vehicles, as I seem to recall Heritage and Autobigraphy owners experienced similar.
Just to add insult to injury RRS ( 5 seater ) is classed as an "Estate", cheaper to insure than 1/2 the value Defender😡
Let's hope LR haven't given up on yourself yet and may be able to shine some light on it!!
