oh I feel your pain... Consider fe-123 or another good Rust Converter, I gave my Common Fuel Rail a coating to see how it lasted...the 'purple tint' dies down after a while, my intention was to then over paint with a good quality paint, maybe a heat resistant matt black stove / automotive paint... but the fe-123 has lasted on its own really well, in the spring i'll revisit this and redo / finish the job. Put some acf 50 on it.
It colours it up a bit and won't rust anymore |

Given the pressures involved, I would doubt this is cast, I suspect this is a forged piece.

sprayed mine with ACF50 when new still looks new!, missed the pulleys and a few bit around there though DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
