Halfords satin black is a pretty good match to the original black. Don't forget to treat the insides with rustproofer such as Dinitrol. There are two drain holes which can be used to access the inside. Smooth Hammerite is also quite good.

Take it off the car. Use a flap disc on an angle grinder to remove loose paint and power through the rust until its gone. Then take it to be shot blasted and powdercoated.
That's what I did and it looks factory fresh. 1953 80" 1987 mini city e 2011 90" |

If your steps have been on from new then once you've removed them give them a good looking over. They rot from the inside out pretty good.

I've just done mine, was a real rush job but they've come up quite well. Getting the old powder coat off was easiest with a stiff wire wheel in a drill. For paint, I would recommend Buzzweld, by far the best aerosols I've used. Much better coverage and less prone to running than Halfords products.
Drill out the rivets and remove the tread plate and rubber, that way you can go at the steel without having to work around it. The rivets are a large size so you'll need a lazy tongue riveter to reinstall. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

And don't bother trying to salvage the plastic end caps. You can buy new ones for a quid on eBay. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
