eBay scams, what's the point?
Trying to get my head around these eBay scam ads, what are they trying to achieve?

Found this one on again: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222381812556 I know it's fake as it belongs to a chap on here who wants a considerable amount more.
It seems there are more and more of these types of ads appearing on eBay and they are so obviously scams of some sort it makes me wonder what kind of person falls for it?
I get that if you are stupid enough to buy something without seeing it via bank transfer then you get what you deserve

I noticed a small batch arriving all at once a couple of days ago. The 90 was listed a couple of weeks earlier at about £11k (seemed about right for age and mileage) then low and behold it pops up at a bargain £4500! This time they have even provided a contact form in which you are asked to fill in all of your details! Scamming made easy.

So what is the deal? Are you supposed to make contact, then pay money in advance of collection?

Back to the point, does anyone really fall for this? Rolling Eyes

I work for a rather large telecom company, begins with B, ends in T
The issue is they do indeed fall for it

Winner of the Canadian lottery sent £6000, tried getting it back because our anti virus didn't stop the email - she failed
Too many - Microsoft working at the BT exchange and we notice you have a virus on your PC, can we access it

Heard the lonely heart on Jeremy Vine who sent over £10000 to some bloke she had never met

They do the ads because they work, I enquired about a fantastic Def 90 and pulled out as soon as I found out it was in Spain, send money via this bank and we will deliver it

I smelled a rat a number of years ago when I was looking to buy a quad bike from eBay. Having studied the pictures I became suspicious of the side of the house in the background looked to be more 'American' than the detailed location of the seller (UK). I made up some excuse about wanting to see the tow ball mounting and asked the seller to take a specific picture and send it to me. All manner of excuses followed with more pressure to pay a deposit before he did. I walked away.

If people are genuine then they will comply with any reasonable request to provide information to secure the sale. 'Buyer beware' as always and sadly, the cynics are safe and the trusting types are the ones who lose out. Phil

A friend of mine is looking to change his Defender & having just looked at FleaBay we reckon that at least 5 out of the 10 newly listed are fraudulent ads...I think eBay may well have run its course for potential buyers...it's rotten to the core. Since 1973...S1, Air Portable's, Defender's, but only my Wolf TUL HS GS remains

To be fair Autotrader is just as bad, you just have to be careful. Its not the site's fault but how they deal with the fraud is

Quite like the TD5 for sale with the TDCi dash layout - so obvious and its only £5000
Its the price and they want your mobile number
