Peak District Green Laning Sunday 20th February 2011
Hi, Me and a mate are going green laning around the Peaks on Sunday, we have got some ordanance survey maps. Does any-one fancy joining us, and if any-one has already been green laning around this area and could give us some adviseas to the best lanes to go on and which to avoid, would be much appreciated. Thanks Paddy

I can't make it but can recommend the fox house inn pub which is at the south west end of the houndkirk road just west of Sheffield. Russell

Paddy, suggest you check the council website. A number of routes which look ok on the OS map now have TRO's on them. The Peaks is one of the sensitive areas in terms of green lanes, the last thing you want to do is give the whingers more ammunition Thumbs Up

I might be available but Im working night shifts so would have to leave by 4pm ish. Paddy, the Old Houndkirk Road is very tame as far as off roading goes, but the views are good, and it can be a fun route to drive as theres normally some large puddles if it has rained. And as BigRuss has said, the Fox House pub is just around the corner.

Living nearby, I pass it most weeks and I usually cant prevent myself from turning off the main road and driving along the route for some fun. Its a great place to stop and get your flask out and admire the scenery. Theres also Stanage Edge which has some more challenging sections.

Green Laning on 20th February 2011
Apologies for all those interested in joining us on the 20th February 2011. Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances we are unable to make the green laning day out, however we will post the next available day and still would appreciate any advise that would be beneficial for when we do go the the Prak District. Apologies again. Paddy Big Cry

I'd echo this too - you need a lot more than an Ordance survey map for derbyshire - a lot of lanes are closed and carefully monitored by the Police through operation Blackbrook. Some of the lanes have suffered from terrible off piste driving, one is about to have a one way system introduced etc etc

In fact Stanage edge mentioned above is having repairs done at the moment and a voluntary restraint is in force. Sadly the days of heading off with just and OS map are gone. Chances are you'll antagonise the antis and at worst you'll get your car crushed.

James just look on the derbyshire county council website. if you cant find it give them a ring.

there are several areas (change all the time) that local rangers and police patrol at weekends in the peaks (and the GLASS guys back them up as well, reporting people they see off piste or on TRO lanes), and if you go up a lane with a TRO, expect a Censored , a notice and a caution. if you then drive off and inadvertently do it again and there happens to be a ranger there, its goodnight irene. Defender meet crusher, crusher meet defender. I mean this in the nicest possible way but you are better off going with someone who knows the area and whats open and whats not.
