BBUS - Don't all Pumas have them?
Hi,

I was under the impression that all Pumas (and possibly others) have BBUS alarms.

Opening up mine (2008 110 XS) to fit an extension loom so I could relocate it from behind the headlight, it appears not.

Anyone know why that would be? Were they optional?

I have the extension loom now, is it worth trying to buy a BBUS and fitting it or getting a different alarm?

Thanks,

Thanks. Dropped you a reply.

So, not all Defenders have them then? Were they a factory fit option? 2008 Defender 110

In the early days the BBUS was an optional factory-fitted upgrade, later it became standard on most models, however even then I have met recent vehicles which should theoretically have had one fitted but which have not.

So all in all it is rather pot luck whether you have one or not.

The good news is that it is a simple plug and play upgrade, although on TD5s the BBUS-compaitible n/s wing harness was fitted whether or not the BBUS was fitted, whilst on Pumas an economy harness was fitted if the BBUS was not present. To retro-fit to a Puma therefore you will generally need to find a TD5 n/s wing harness. These come up regularly on eBay from breakers.

Thanks blackwolf, that seems to make sense from what I'm seeing on my Puma.

Fairly sure that I've got the "economy" harness as I can only see sets of wires with two wires in them, see attached.

For the BBUS you should have a black connector with a rubber shroud with four black wires coming from it.

It can be seen in the photo in the first post in this thread - the connector is the bottom left one in the image

Here you go.

Rather more than I'd like to pay, but roughly half the price from a dealer.

(Nothing to do with the seller, I just looked for YMD001020 on eBay for you).
