just adding to this, would it be adviseable to have a winch cover? or would the dust not affect it that much?

Ive never bothered and not had any issues, however a cover must be better than no cover.

also, on the subject of tents, looking at buying a normal ground tent that will be used for Morocco this year ( hopefully), and maybe some trips to scotland. Needs to be 3-4 man size, was looking for some recommendations?

Price isnt really a big issue, just dont wanna get cold or wet haha!

I have experienced sandstorms on two of the trips I have done. The first was in one of these http://www.lightwave.uk.com/en/tent_g20trek.php the tent never moved, unlike other cheaper tents that simply tore and blew away leaving people tent-less for the rest of the trip.

Second time I was in this tent. Again no issues but we did fold it up for an hour or two to ride the storm out as I have seen these types of tent collapse in storms and didn't want to risk it.

When a storm hits you really do need a good tent or take 2 or 3 cheap disposable tents. When the wind hits its nasty.
Here we are early one morning, the only way to create shelter to make a brew was to get the tarp out. You can see the wind forcing the tarp into the contours of the vehicle.

At those checkpoints, a packet of marlboro lights and a beer for the soldier who approaches you goes a very long way to them letting you straight through without hold up

They also work at their so call " Speed traps" the fine miraculously turns in the much cheaper "phone use" on the spot fine Whistle

Yep,, lose the CB gear going through the border

Remember with a tent,,, after 2/3 weeks of putting a tent up and down, get a RPITA, so easier the better

G'day,

Great list, we also do the same for our extended trips in the high country or outback.

One of the most important items on our list is a very extensive remote area first aid kit.
I also carry a can of contact cleaner. Find this very usefull and it drys straight away.

Hey Jake - this would be great for a new thread as Mike suggests, if you have time or energy of course!

Mike / Andrew - Legends - thanks for posting this!

A couple of other items to consider

Sanatizing hand gel no water. One bottle on dash, one by rear door

Self amalgamating tape also know as rescue tape.

Keep toilet roll in a plastic bag! With a lighter/matches. After digging your hole, doing your business, cleaning your bum with toilet paper BURN the paper before burying everything! Animals will dig up your faces and paper will blow around. There is another rubbish blowing around the deserts.

Back to your Land Rover and use the anti bacterial sanatizing gel Thumbs Up

We drove through the border at Ceuta (in June) and it is no longer necessary to hide the CB radio and aerial. We did not attempt it, the government has changed the attitude.
We were not stopped at checkpoints, but waved through them all. Puma 90 MY 2010 (sold 2017)

When you say no longer neccessary to hide the cb and aerial, why is that? Is this official?

I do not know if it is official, but my group leader (Waypoint-tour.com) said that it was not necessary (he was in Morocco in April, too) - and it was not. Our equipment was very, very visible. Absolutely no reaction at the border. Puma 90 MY 2010 (sold 2017)

I know Barrie, he's a good guy. And it's interesting about the cb but I would rather know the official position really.

Why you were into the red on your fuel I really don't know. There's just no need to run so low in Morocco, there are fuel stations everywhere, even when you're in the desert there is always one within around 50 miles.
