alive remap
Well on Friday I took the plunge and had the 130 remapped at Alive in Louth. As I use the truck as a demountable it is very heavy sometimes and very light at others so they chaps provided me with an Atric containing two additional maps just so that I could experiment if need be. Since Friday I have been running the 165 bhp version on the truck without the cabin mounted. First impressions are that I now have a vehicle with some power! I actually overtook someone on an A road, a first for me! I can go up hills without slowing. It has made the truck much more responsive. I still get a bit of kangarooing in 1st and 2nd if I am not careful with the clutch but it is no worse than before, maybe slightly better and with the cabin mounted it does not do it at all.. The big test will come this weekend when we set off for Spain and Portugal. I asked for torque to help with long hills as previously I was definitely struggling. I will post an update when I have some impressions so that anyone else running a demountable cab get a view on the differences.

Had mine done by Alive, makes the 2.2 110 so much more pleasurable to drive. I was struggling to live with it as standard due to low power and jerky delivery.

As I'm vaguely considering having mine re-mapped once the warranty runs out, I'd be interested to know what difference it has made to your insurance premium?

Thanks very much.

Great outfit you have Trundlebus! Does it take long to demount? It looks like you demount at camp site to allow you to tour during day without cabin?

Have a great trip! Photos please Smile. Will you drive all the way or Ferry to further South? Being nosey but it's a trip I'd like to do, but not sure kids would cope with drive all the way.

Remaps are great. For interest my BAS170AB added £30 to A-Plan insurance but most of that was admin charge for changing policy mid term. James

Thanks folks. I'm pleasantly surprised at that as usually any power increase puts the premiums up. Perhaps it's because you're tuning a Defender, not a sports car.

If it's not impolite to ask, what is the rough cost of an alive remap?

The Alive website has the 2.4 listed at £395 + VAT, and the 2.2 listed at £495 + VAT.

However, the dealers occasionally have offers on, so it may be worth contacting them Thumbs Up

The tunes are cheaper now, they were in the £500 region.
I've had mine form
Alive for a while now, all positive no negatives at all!

Use some Millers diesel additive on a permanent basis too and it'll run lovely, it too will give you a safe but noticeable power increase as well as emmionsions reduction AND keep internal components and injectors clean. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
