Hi Charcoal,
What do you mean by that? I will ask and see if his father-in-law can get us anymore information that might be of interest about the conversion. Googled the company in Devon, but couldn't' find much. He unfortunately doesn't want to re-purchase it. The question has been asked. |

Sorry I didn't make that clear, I looked into the conversion back when I had my ex mod 110 and read up about it on forums. Lots of people mentioned it would destroy half shafts, prop shafts and manual gearboxes. because of the torque. No one stated whether they knew from personal experience or not.
Also when researching the conversion I found out the company that done the conversion; Samurai engineering had closed down many years ago. Quite a shame as I don't think anyone else could provide the complete conversion package. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon 1998 Land Rover Defender 110 County Station Wagon ~ Sold 1995 Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Station Wagon ~ Sold 1985 Land Rover 110 ex mod project Tithonus ~ Sold |

Well that confirms what the Google search proved that Samurai are no longer in business.
I will see if I can find out more for you (I'm obviously not still slaving away at work) tomorrow. From the look of the invoice, there was very little else changed. From what I can make out the truck was predominantly used for towing and If I recall, this was a replacment for an original V8 engine. The claims of the MPG on the EBay add also tie up with what was achieved during ownership (25mpg - I don't suppose the 2.2 is doing much more than that). Quite remarkable for such an enormous lump. |

We used to run a GMC Jimmy with the 6.2 v8 Diesel.
Horrible thing, spat gearboxes out and wasn't as quick as a 300Tdi Disco on the road. The engine specs aren't really that impressive: Max engine speed 3,600 rpm. Peak: 130hp Peak Torque 240lb-ft only a bit more than a 300Tdi at 195lb ft) Engine also weighs almost 300kg which is almost 100kg heavier than a rover v8. |

I had a RRC with a 6.5 too! Except it never ran
The 100" 6.2 had an LT77 with front and rear Salisburys... I'll find a photograph and take a digital of it. It was originally a truck cab, then we cut up a 110 hardtop to fit. Had an interesting plate TOI 1948, buyer lived somewhere near Heathrow. It should still be going, it had a galv chassis and bulkhead. Click image to enlarge |

Not really much to add about the Ebay add Land Rover.
It seems that the running gear (Diffs, Half Shafts etc.) and brakes from the look of the invoice were all standard and it ran well. As I had said previously, it was used mainly for towing with no real problems. It is curious that the invoice states that there was no need to improve the brakes or steering, although the front springs were uprated to deal with the extra weight? |
